Full job description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Bookkeeper is responsible as directed by the Finance/Membership Coordinator for the day-to-day operation of the Nation’s Finance and Administration. A strong background in accounts payable/receivable and payroll is required. Experience in Sage Accounting is not mandatory, but experience in Sage is preferred.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Technical Functions:

o Reporting directly to the Finance/Membership Coordinator. The Bookkeeper is responsible as directed for the day-to-day operation of the Nation’s Finance and Administration.

o A strong background in accounts payable/receives and payroll is required.

o Demonstrated proficiency in Sage Accpac is desirable.

2. Administrative Functions:

o Maintain record of all financial activities of the Nation as defined in the MDN Financial Policies and Procedures

o Report on all financial activities of the Nation as required.

o Provide monthly financial statements to the Nation Manager, Program Managers and Chief & Council.

o And respond to inquiries as per the direction of the Nation Manager

o Monitor budgets and prepare final reports for all special functions and projects.

3. Communication & Liaison

o Liaise with and support the Nation’s financial auditors.

o Attend committees and council meetings as required and present reports

4. Other Related Duties:

o Performs other job-related duties as may reasonably be required by the Finance/Membership Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Post-Secondary degree or diploma in accounting, business administration or accounting or 1-2 years related, recent work experience.

· A bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, commerce, or a related field is required.

· Several years of experience in accounting, auditing, budgeting, financial planning and analysis or other financial activities considered an asset.
