The Faculty of Arts is one of the largest faculties on the UNB Fredericton Campus. It is home to 40 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in humanities and social sciences offered within ten departments and three interdisciplinary programs. In addition, the faculty offers joint degree programs with the faculties of Science and Computer Science as well as an articulated degree program with the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design.

This can be a remote position within Atlantic Canada, with travel to UNB and locations across Atlantic Canada required.

YOUR FOCUS
Funded through the Dimensions Canada Grants program, this research project asks how Atlantic Canadian universities can better integrate equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization (EDID) in the Tenure and Promotion (T&P) process. This is a collaborative project led by the University of New Brunswick in partnership with Dalhousie University, Mount Saint Vincent University, and Cape Breton University.
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Arts, UNB Fredericton, the Research Project Coordinator (the Coordinator) will be responsible for overall development, coordination and implementation of all research project activities, and for leading a team of part-time student Research Assistants. The Coordinator will work closely with and liaise between the Executive Committee and an Advisory Council of equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization (EDID) specialists, which may include faculty and staff from Atlantic Canadian universities and colleges, labour union representatives, and community leaders and organizations.
Over the course of the project, you will:
Plan and execute research project deliverables in consultation with the Executive Committee, Advisory Council, community members, and stakeholders.
Lead all aspects of research design and strategy, including research ethics applications, environmental scans, literature reviews, interview protocols, and other data collection methods to examine the equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization (EDID) and Tenure & Promotion landscape across Atlantic Canada.
Develop and implement strategies to identify, engage, and communicate with research participants across Atlantic Canadian universities using fair, ethical, and transparent research practices.
Lead the development and delivery of research and knowledge mobilization activities, including engagement sessions, focus groups, and a final research workshop.
Analyze research findings to assess existing practices, policies, and programs; identify gaps, strengths, and opportunities; and develop evidence-based, practical, and broadly applicable recommendations for T&P processes across Atlantic Canadian universities.
Lead and supervise a team of part-time Student Research Assistants, including assigning work, providing guidance and mentorship, monitoring progress, addressing challenges, and supporting timely achievement of project objectives and timelines.
Develop communication strategies and prepare written and verbal reports, research findings, recommendations, academic publications, accessible summaries, and toolkit resources.
Exercise independent judgement, problem-solving, and decision-making to address complex issues and navigate sensitive discussions among diverse stakeholders.
Build and maintain respectful partnerships and collaborative relationships with Atlantic Canadian universities, senior administrators, union representatives, and equity-deserving groups.
Ensure compliance with policies, legislation, and research standards related to data integrity, privacy, confidentiality, and the First Nations Principles of OCAP.
Manage the budget for project activities, engagement sessions, the final workshop, and other project-related activities.
Coordinate and schedule meetings with the Executive Committee, Advisory Council, and project collaborators.
Perform other related duties within the scope of the position.
WHAT YOU BRING
A Master's degree
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Minimum two years experience conducting research at the graduate level, including research design; ethics review; collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data from documents and interviews; and communication of research findings.
Experience working with diverse teams in a higher education context, including but not limited to equity-deserving communities; senior administration and/or unions.
Demonstrated understanding of EDID and the scholarship of systemic barriers within education and employment.
Excellent organizational and budget management skills, with the ability to coordinate activities while working remotely.
Excellent judgment and discretion in handling confidential and/or sensitive information; and in working with diverse stakeholders.
Research project management experience.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Familiarity with tenure & academic advancement policies and processes at Canadian academic institutions.
Additional Strengths
French-English bilingualism.
Prior experience using Participatory Action Research methods.
Relevant lived experience of equity, diversity, inclusion and decolonization opportunities and barriers in academic environments.
Familiarity with accessibility standards and best practices, including experience creating accessible documents.
