Senior Mechanical Engineer (P.Eng.)

Location: New Liskeard, Northern Ontario
Job Type: Full-Time | Permanent About EXP

EXP is a multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm delivering infrastructure and industrial projects across Northeastern Ontario. We work closely with municipal and private-sector clients, supporting projects from concept development through procurement, construction, and commissioning.

Our New Liskeard office is home to a collaborative team of mechanical and civil engineers, project managers, technologists, technicians, CAD specialists, surveyors, and support staff. With approximately 30+ professionals, we offer the technical depth of a larger firm with the flexibility and close collaboration of a regional office.

EXP is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer (P.Eng.) to lead the design, analysis, and delivery of mechanical systems for industrial and municipal infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who excels in technical leadership, system design, mentoring, and client engagement

What a day at EXP has in store for you

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will:

Lead mechanical system design for projects, including:
- HVAC systems
- Piping and fluid systems
- Industrial machinery and equipment
Perform and approve complex engineering calculations, including:
- Heating and cooling loads
- Fluid dynamics and pressure losses
- Thermodynamics and energy analysis
Ensure designs comply with ASME, CSA, NFPA, and applicable local building and mechanical codes
Prepare and review technical documentation, including:
- Specifications
- Design briefs and reports
- Risk assessments
- Sequences of operation
Develop scope of work and basis of design, maintaining accuracy through all project phases
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (MEP/FP, Architectural, Civil, Structural)
Manage vendor and supplier interactions, reviewing technical submissions and equipment selections
Review, approve, and stamp drawings and specifications; perform QA/QC reviews
Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior engineers and technologists
Manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and deliverables using sound risk management practices
Respond to RFIs, review submittals, and troubleshoot issues during design and construction
Oversee installation, commissioning, and field investigations, providing on-site technical guidance
Apply advanced mechanical engineering concepts, including:
- Psychrometrics
- Hydronic and air-side system design
- Energy efficiency and performance principles

What your experience looks like

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise and leadership experience in mechanical engineering, including:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (mandatory)
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario or eligible for licensure within a short timeframe
Demonstrated experience in mechanical engineering design for industrial and/or municipal infrastructure projects
Strong proficiency with mechanical design software, including:
- AutoCAD (mandatory)
- Revit, SolidWorks, and simulation / FEA tools ( assets )
- MS Office (Word, Excel) and MS Project for project management
Experience in preliminary and detailed design for heavy industrial and municipal systems
In-depth knowledge of engineering codes and standards:
- ASME
- CSA
- NFPA
- Local building and mechanical codes
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform advanced engineering calculations
Proven leadership and mentoring ability, including multidisciplinary coordination
Experience managing project scopes, budgets, schedules, and deliverables
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

The salary range for this role is between $100K - $150K. The actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location.
