Founded in 1981, Neighbourhood Dance Works (NDW) is a dance organization dedicated to supporting artists, engaging communities, and presenting innovative performances and programming throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
NDW is seeking a creative, organized, and collaborative Director of Marketing and Communications to lead the organization's communications, audience development, and promotional initiatives. This position plays a key role in increasing the visibility of NDW's performances, workshops, festivals, and community programming while strengthening connections with audiences, artists, and partners.
Job Description
The Director of Marketing and Communications develops and implements marketing strategies that support NDW's artistic programming and organizational goals. The successful candidate will oversee digital communications, create engaging promotional content, coordinate publicity campaigns, and document programming through photography and video.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement marketing, communications, and audience development strategies that support NDW's artistic programming and organizational goals.
- Plan and coordinate promotional campaigns for performances, workshops, festivals, community programs, and special initiatives.
- Create engaging written, graphic, photographic, video, and digital content for print and online platforms.
- Manage and maintain NDW's website, e-newsletter communications and subscriber lists, and social media platforms using Wix and other digital tools.
- Draft and distribute media releases, newsletters, event listings, and other promotional materials.
- Coordinate promotional timelines and maintain marketing calendars to ensure timely communications.
- Collaborate with the Artistic Director, artists, presenters, sponsors, and project partners to gather promotional materials and support communications initiatives.
- Build and strengthen relationships with audiences, media, and community partners to increase awareness and participation.
- Document performances, workshops, presentations, and events through photography and video for promotional and archival purposes.
- Monitor and evaluate marketing initiatives using audience engagement and communications analytics.
- Maintain NDW's digital marketing assets, photo and video archives, and brand consistency across all communications.
- Explore new marketing and communications opportunities that expand NDW's reach and community engagement.
- Support accessible and inclusive communications practices across digital and print platforms.
Skills, Qualifications & AssetsRequired Skills
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience developing and implementing marketing and communications strategies.
- Experience managing websites, e-newsletters, social media platforms, and digital communications.
- Strong organizational, time management, and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Experience creating digital content, including photography, video, and written communications.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a creative team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality communications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
Assets
- Experience with graphic design software such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience managing website content and e-newsletters using Wix.
- Photography, videography, and video editing experience.
- Experience using audience engagement and communications analytics.
- Experience working in the arts, culture, or non-profit sector.
- Interest in contemporary dance, performing arts, and community engagement.
- Knowledge of accessible and inclusive communications practices.

Job Type: Full-time
Hours: 22.5 - 30 hours/week flexible/hybrid schedule (0.6 -1.0 FTE)
Salary: $28,922 annually +MERCS
Work Location: St. John's, NL
Pay: $28,922.00 per year
