Position Job Title: Course Developer - FREN 101
Location: Niagara Falls, Ontario
Reports To: Associate Dean & Centre for Teaching Excellence (CTE)
Duration & Pay Scale: 10 Week Contract $7,200 Per Course
Primary Purpose
The University of Niagara Falls Canada is in search of a versatile and experienced Course developer. As a course developer you will report to the Associate Dean & Centre for Teaching Excellence (CTE) and work closely with the developing CTE team, including the Senior Instructional Designer, and other academic and administrative units across the UNF community, in the development of interactive and research-grounded multimedia educational elements in UNF courses and programs. The collaborative nature of this work necessitates that the courseware developer must have excellent soft skills to work effectively on project teams to support course and program development. Coupled with these collaborative skills, the courseware developer will bring with them the ability to use their knowledge to innovate, work independently on multiple projects at one time, and lead the CTE team in its development of best practice multimedia development and data gathering strategies to support the advancement of UNF and its technologically grounded programs. They will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot technical issues and be proactive in their approach to identifying and addressing potential challenges.
The University of Niagara Falls Canada is seeking a contract Course Developer for FREN 101, an introductory French course focused on speaking and reading development for beginner learners. This course supports broader elective choice for undergraduate students and may also serve learners seeking practical language development as part of wider academic or residency-related goals
Design and develop course content for FREN 101 with a focus on speaking and reading skills.
Create interactive learning materials that support pronunciation, vocabulary development, oral communication, and beginner reading practice.
Develop activities and assessments such as guided conversations, vocabulary checks, short oral tasks, and introductory reading comprehension exercises.
Integrate multimedia elements such as audio clips, visual supports, simple dialogues, and beginner-friendly reading passages.
Ensure all course materials align with learning outcomes, accessibility standards, and LMS requirements.
Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure clarity, consistency, completeness, and instructional alignment.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support development timelines and implementation needs.
Strong understanding of introductory French language instruction and second-language acquisition.
Ability to scaffold learning from basic vocabulary and grammar to simple oral and reading tasks.
Experience creating beginner-level language learning content for higher education or adult learners.
Familiarity with LMS platforms such as Brightspace, Canvas, or Moodle.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in aligning outcomes, content, and assessments.
Master’s degree or PhD in French, French Studies, Applied Linguistics, Education, Curriculum Development, or a related field.
Minimum 3 years of experience in higher education teaching, curriculum development, or course design in French language or related disciplines.
Experience teaching or developing introductory undergraduate French courses, especially in speaking and reading.
Demonstrated ability to design assessments that evaluate oral communication, vocabulary acquisition, and reading comprehension.
Experience developing or adapting courses for online or blended learning environments.
Knowledge of accessibility, learner-centered design, and copyright or fair dealing practices in educational contexts.
