Job Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Recreation Therapist to join our team. In this role, you will develop, coordinate, and lead meaningful recreational programs that promote engagement, independence, and an enhanced quality of life for our residents.
The successful candidate will be responsible for creating positive and enriching experiences that support residents' physical, emotional, social, and cognitive well-being. Through individualized and group activities, you will foster a vibrant community atmosphere while building strong relationships with residents, families, and team members. The role also includes assisting with general resident care and supporting residents in their daily living needs as required.
Key Responsibilities:
General Care Duties:
- Engage with assigned residents, implementing therapeutic activities based on their preferences and goals.
- Foster meaningful connections and provide companionship to enhance emotional, physical, social, spiritual, and physical well-being.
- Assist residents with organizing their living space, including putting away clothes.
- Check and replace oxygen tanks as needed.
- Assist with mealtime activities, including cutting food and providing support as necessary.
- Ensure the safety and cleanliness of the resident's room.
Assisting New Residents:
- Provide support and orientation to new residents joining the community.
- Facilitate introductions and help them feel comfortable in their new environment.
Reporting to Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator:
- Provide updates on resident progress, concerns, or special requests.
- Collaborate with the coordinator to ensure seamless coordination of personalized programs.
- Documentation through ActivityPro to maintain communication between program participants, Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator, and families.
Supporting the Recreation Department
- Assist with portering of residents to large activities and entertainment.
- Support recreation department when necessary.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy or a related field.
- Registration or good standing with TRO and/or NCTRC.
- Previous experience working with elderly populations and individuals living with dementia in a therapeutic setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to work independently.
- Ability to tailor activities to meet individual resident needs.
- Flexibility to adapt to variations in residents' schedules and preferences.
