OVERVIEW
Our client, a leader in hot-dip galvanizing and steel corrosion protection services, is seeking an experienced Plant Manager to lead and oversee all aspects of their manufacturing operations.
Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, the Plant Manager will be responsible for the overall leadership of production, maintenance, quality, safety, environmental compliance, and operational performance within the facility. This role will play a critical part in ensuring customer commitments are met while driving continuous improvement, operational efficiency, workforce development, and safe execution of all galvanizing operations.
The successful candidate will bring a strong background in manufacturing leadership, process optimization, safety management, and people development within a heavy industrial environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide overall leadership and direction for plant operations including production, maintenance, quality, shipping and receiving
- Ensure production objectives, customer delivery commitments, and operational targets are achieved safely and efficiently
- Coordinate daily plant activities through supervisors and department leaders
- Support customer demand requirements by aligning production schedules with business needs
- Oversee all aspects of the hot-dip galvanizing process including surface preparation, pickling, fluxing, galvanizing, quenching, finishing, and inspection
- Monitor galvanizing process performance, zinc utilization, bath chemistry, coating quality, and process efficiency
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on throughput, yield, quality, and operational performance
- Champion a strong health, safety, environmental, and quality culture throughout the facility
- Ensure compliance with applicable OHSA regulations, environmental requirements, internal SHEQ standards, and safe work practices
- Lead incident investigations, corrective actions, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance activities
- Maintain compliance with quality management systems, customer specifications, and applicable ISO standards
- Support customer audits, technical inquiries, and quality-related corrective action processes
- Develop and manage operating budgets, capital expenditure plans, and cost control initiatives
- Monitor and optimize labour efficiency, maintenance expenditures, chemical usage, and material consumption
- Coordinate production schedules with sales, logistics, procurement, and customer service teams
- Manage maintenance planning and shutdown activities to minimize operational disruptions
- Ensure effective material handling, inventory management, storage, and shipment of finished products
- Lead workforce planning, staffing, performance management, coaching, and employee development initiatives
- Establish performance metrics, KPIs, and accountability measures across plant operations
- Build succession plans and support leadership development for supervisors and key technical personnel
- Promote Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies throughout the organization
- Partner with quality, engineering, and operations teams to identify and resolve process inefficiencies, defects, and operational challenges
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 5 years of plant management, operations management, or manufacturing leadership experience
- Previous experience within hot-dip galvanizing, metal finishing, steel processing, or heavy industrial manufacturing environments strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, process optimization, and continuous improvement programs
- Experience managing high-risk industrial operations with a strong focus on safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance
- Demonstrated success leading production, maintenance, quality, and operational teams
- Experience managing budgets, capital projects, production costs, and operational performance metrics
- Strong knowledge of quality systems, audit readiness, and ISO-certified manufacturing environments
- Excellent leadership, communication, coaching, and employee development abilities
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing, maintenance, or ERP software systems
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt required; Black Belt considered an asset
- AGA Master Galvanizer Certification considered a strong asset
- Supervisory Health & Safety, Incident Investigation, ISO, or Environmental Management certifications considered assets
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Industrial Technology, or a related discipline
