Job Description:
Position Purpose summary:
The Community Ministry Worker provides compassionate, client-centered support to individuals and families seeking assistance from, or referred to, The Salvation Army. This position is responsible for assessing client needs, connecting individuals with appropriate programs and community resources, and coordinating the delivery of Community Services programs. The Community Ministry Worker plans, organizes, and facilitates a variety of community-based programs that promote well-being, inclusion, and self-sufficiency. The position also recruits, trains, supervises, and supports volunteers to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of services while fostering a positive volunteer experience. The Community Ministry Worker works collaboratively with staff, community partners, and volunteers to uphold the organization's mission and provide high-quality, respectful service to the community.
Accountabilities:
Client Services and Programs

Provide leadership and oversight for Community Ministry programs, ensuring ministry objectives are achieved and that a spiritual focused, compassionate approach is reflected in all program activities.

Conduct client intake interviews, assessments, and emergency assistance appointments to identify immediate needs and determine appropriate supports.

Provide information, advocacy, referrals, and pastoral support to clients, connecting them with internal, Corps Officer and external community resources as appropriate.

Build and maintain collaborative relationships with government agencies, social service providers, churches, educational institutions, and community organizations to coordinate services and improve client outcomes.

Maintain current knowledge of community resources, programs, and services to ensure effective referrals.

Plan, organize, coordinate, and evaluate seasonal and special programs, including the Christmas Hamper Program, summer workshops, and other community initiatives.

Recruit, register, and support children and youth participating in The Salvation Army provincial camping programs.

In consultation with the Corps Officer, follow up with children, youth, and their families after camp participation to build relationships and encourage ongoing connection with the church, its mission, and community ministries.

Develop and maintain partnerships with local colleges and universities to facilitate student placement opportunities.

Actively promote The Salvation Army, North Bay Community Church and Community Services programs to clients and community partners.

Collaborate with Community Services staff to enhance, promote, and strengthen the profile of The Salvation Army North Bay Community Church and Community Services and its community programs.
2. Volunteer and Student Supervision

Recruit, orient, train, schedule, supervise, and support volunteers and student placements in consultation with the Corps Officer.

Foster a positive team environment that reflects the mission and values of the organization while ensuring volunteers and students contribute effectively to Community Services.

Coordinate student placement assignments and provide ongoing supervision, including weekly meetings, learning support, mid-term evaluations, and final evaluations.

Develop recommendations and strategies to strengthen volunteer recruitment, engagement, recognition, and retention.

Assist with planning and facilitating volunteer meetings, orientation sessions, and training opportunities.

Monitor volunteer and student compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and safety standards.
3. Finance and Administration

Maintain accurate and confidential client files, case notes, program statistics, and service records.

Prepare reports, correspondence, and statistical information as required.

Assist with program planning, budgeting, purchasing, and resource allocation in consultation with the supervisor.

Maintain program records, inventories, and administrative documentation in accordance with organizational policies.

Support grant reporting and data collection requirements, as assigned.

Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and professional development opportunities.
4. Health and Safety

Perform all duties in compliance with applicable occupational health and safety legislation, organizational policies, and safe work practices.

Maintain a safe, clean, welcoming, and respectful environment for clients, volunteers, staff, and visitors.

Ensure food handling, storage, sanitation, and distribution practices comply with applicable food safety standards and organizational procedures.

Report hazards, incidents, and safety concerns promptly and participate in ongoing risk management initiatives.
Perform other related duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a regular full-time position based on 35 hours per week.

The work schedule may vary based on program needs, operational requirements, and the responsibilities of the position. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required, approximately once per month, as needed.

The Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.

Working environment is typically in the office in generally agreeable conditions.

Ability to repeatedly lift/move 30 lbs. (13.6 kg) without assistance.

This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a standing position for periods of time.

Dealing with difficult people and verbal abuse.
-
Occasional travel (up to 5%) is associated with this position, i.e., attending committee meetings.
Normal hours of work: 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break where applicable. The working conditions are such that to meet the operational needs of the job some flexibility is required as it relates to hours of work.

education and experience Qualifications:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completion of a formal post-secondary program of two academic years, preferably in Social Services or related field of study.

Safe Food Handling and First Aid/CPR certifications are considered assets.

Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training is preferred.

Strong conflict resolution skills are considered a definite asset.

Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, reliable access to a personal vehicle, and appropriate vehicle insurance are required.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge:
Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience, including experience supporting individuals facing multiple barriers, including mental health challenges.

Knowledge of community-based resources and demonstrated experience developing and maintaining partnerships with government and social service agencies.

Proficiency working in a computerized environment with strong skills using Microsoft Office Suite and related technology.

Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.

Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $20.09 to $25.11 with a maximum of $30.13.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
