The opportunity:
Under the supervision of the Community Coordinator, the Lead Camp Counsellors will work together to plan, prepare, and deliver daily summer programming activities. The summer camp programming is designed to help children have fun while learning during the summer months and to help them return to school ready and confident to succeed in September. Activities will include reading, writing, STEM, art, physical activity, and culture.
The Lead Camp Counsellors will be responsible to deliver a 3-week summer camp in Wotstak First Nation, followed by 4 weeks of 1-to-1 and small group reading support. Your main responsibilities and major duties:
The Lead Camp Counsellor will assist with designing, planning, organizing, delivering, and evaluating the summer camp programing, working alongside community partners and summer staff
This will include:
· Promoting the camps and ensuring learner registration.
· Preparing and delivering curriculum and activities for the camps.
· Setting up, organizing, and cleaning up the camp space.
· Purchasing and accessing all the materials and supplies for the camps.
· Ensuring that the camps are safe for all participants.
· Evaluating the camps with children, youth, parents, and community partners.
· Maintain accurate records of the camps and submit data according to reporting deadlines.

· Experience working with children and in a camp setting
· A passion for education and community development

· Ability to work in a team and independently
· Ability to communicate effectively and in a respectful manner
· Creative and willing to share thoughts and ideas
· Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing situations
· Skills and experience in risk management are an asset
Additional Requirements
This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs. Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years of age at the beginning of employment, and must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have been granted refugee status in Canada.
First aid training is preferred by not required.
Working with United For Literacy
Hourly wage: $20.00-22.00 depending on experience and education
Hours of Work: 35 hours/week
