Purpose of the Position
The Senior Finance Manager is responsible for leading the financial management, accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis functions for Tłı̨chǫ Investment Corporation ("TIC") and its subsidiaries.
This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial records, oversees core accounting functions (accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, banking, and financial reporting), and provides strategic financial leadership that supports organizational planning, operational decision-making, and sustainable business growth.
The Senior Finance Manager plays a key leadership role in maintaining strong internal controls, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and legislation, supporting audits, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, and providing reliable financial information and recommendations to executive leadership.
Scope
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Finance Manager leads the Finance department and is responsible for the delivery of accurate, timely, and meaningful financial information across multiple corporate entities.
The position ensures accounting processes, financial systems, and internal controls operate effectively while supporting organizational compliance with applicable accounting standards, legislation, and corporate policies.
The Senior Finance Manager serves as a strategic advisor to the Chief Financial Officer and operational leaders by providing financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, business performance reporting, and recommendations that improve operational efficiency, financial performance, and organizational decision-making.
Responsibilities
1. Financial Reporting and Accounting Systems
- Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and adherence to established timelines.
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.
- Prepare consolidated financial statements and management reporting across all TIC entities.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports, including variance analysis and key performance indicators.
- Maintain complete and accurate accounting records across all companies.
- Ensure timely reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts.
- Monitor organizational cash flow requirements and provide cash flow forecasting.
- Prepare debt compliance, banking, and covenant reporting as required.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE), and applicable financial legislation.
- Coordinate and support internal and external audit processes, including preparation of schedules, documentation, and responses to audit findings.
2. Financial Planning, Analysis, and Business Performance
- Manage the annual budgeting process across all operating companies.
- Develop financial forecasts, financial models, and long-term financial planning tools.
- Monitor financial performance against budgets and identify significant trends and variances.
- Perform detailed financial, operational, and profitability analysis.
- Support feasibility analyses for new business opportunities, projects, acquisitions, and contracts.
- Analyze operational efficiencies and identify opportunities for cost reduction and revenue enhancement.
- Prepare financial presentations and recommendations for executive leadership.
- Develop reporting tools and dashboards that support informed business decisions.
3. Financial Systems, Controls, and Continuous Improvement
- Maintain and continuously improve accounting systems, financial processes, and internal controls.
- Ensure financial systems (including payroll and accounting software) operate effectively and efficiently.
- Identify opportunities to automate processes, improve reporting accuracy, and streamline workflows.
- Lead system upgrades, implementations, and enhancements.
- In collaboration with the CFO, develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, financial legislation, and internal control requirements.
- Recommend improvements that strengthen financial governance and operational effectiveness.
4. Leadership and Team Management
- Lead, supervise, mentor, and develop Finance team members, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Accounting staff.
- Establish performance expectations and provide coaching, mentoring, and regular performance feedback.
- Support employee development, succession planning, and continuous learning.
- Ensure work is appropriately assigned, completed accurately, and meets organizational deadlines.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, customer-service oriented, and high-performing team environment.
- Promote continuous improvement and employee engagement throughout the Finance department.
5. Payroll, Banking, and Cash Flow Oversight
- Provide overall oversight of full-cycle payroll processing across all TIC entities.
- Ensure payroll compliance, including CRA remittances, payroll taxes, benefits administration, garnishments, WSCC reporting, ROEs, and T4 preparation.
- Review payroll reconciliations and reporting for completeness and accuracy.
- Provide guidance and oversight to Payroll staff.
- Oversee banking relationships.
- Monitor cash management and recommend strategies that optimize organizational cash flow.
6. Strategic Business Partnership
- Act as a trusted financial advisor to the Chief Financial Officer, senior leadership, and operational managers.
- Present financial information, analysis, and recommendations to executive management.
- Support operational managers with budgeting, financial reporting, and financial decision-making.
- Liaise with auditors, banking institutions, insurance providers, joint venture partners, funding agencies, and other external stakeholders.
- Build effective relationships across the organization to support sound financial management.
- Support organizational strategic planning and corporate initiatives through financial expertise.

Qualifications
Education and Professional Designation
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required.
Experience
- Minimum 7–10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- Minimum 5 years in a leadership or senior management role.
- Experience leading multi-entity accounting operations and consolidated financial reporting.
- Demonstrated experience leading budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
- Experience managing payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and treasury functions.
- Experience working with external auditors, financial institutions, and regulatory agencies.
- Experience implementing financial systems, process improvements, and internal controls.
Technical Knowledge and Skills
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP and Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE).
- Advanced financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, and business analysis skills.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems (QuickBooks or similar).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
- Strong understanding of internal controls, financial governance, and risk management.
