Full job description

Title: Men’s Outreach Worker
Status of employment: Permanent
Reports to: Program Supervisor Office
Location: Mi’kmaw Family Healing Centre – We’koqma’q

Position Summary:
The Men’s Outreach Program provides individual and group counseling, group facilitation, workshops, and support to men and male youth over 16 years of age. The overall goal of the Men’s Outreach Program is to help men break the cycle of abuse and control their behavior. The Men’s Outreach Program also provides workshops such as: Journey of the Two Wolves Program, Respectful Relationships, Building Life Skills, Job Readiness, Individual and Team Building, Men’s Wellness, Self Esteem, Stress/Anger and Time Management, Parenting, and Conflict Resolution.

Key Responsibilities:
-Assesses intakes and referrals for service and provides information, individual counselling, and support to meet the needs identified

-Assesses physical, emotional, and mental state of the client to determine (and attend to) the clients’ most immediate needs

-Assess the level of danger and takes necessary precautionary steps to support the client’s protection

-Establishes rapport and trust, responding with empathy and information

-Assesses the need for specific workshops for schools/communities and facilitation of these workshops

-Evaluates workshops; determining whether they are meeting the needs identified and adjusting the program accordingly

-Offers individual and group counselling on issues of past abuse, self-esteem, addictions, and any other area affecting her recovery and healing from family violence

-Maintains confidential records/documentation of clients served and submits monthly and other reports as required such as statistical data for the annual report

-Participates in case conferences and supervision sessions

-Advocates on behalf of clients as part of the process to ensure that their needs are met across the various programs

-Interviews for information re: history of relationship, family, children, coping skills, personal and community support systems

-Attends scheduled meetings of all program staff

-Meets regularly with other members of the Family Healing Program to inform them of program changes, and new programs, and to receive feedback

-Participates in professional training/development opportunities

-Works collaboratively with other Support and Outreach Workers to share information relevant to women’s and children’s safety

-Performs other tasks or duties that may be required to meet the operational needs of the Family Healing Program, and/or as requested by supervisory/management

Qualifications:
-Diploma or certificate in Human Services field (Community Services, Early Childhood Development, Education, Psychology, etc.) from an accredited institution

-2+ years’ experience providing individual or group counselling to those who have been exposed to, experienced, and/or have been part of family or domestic violence - specific experience may vary between women, men, and/or children and youth

-Vulnerable Sector and Child Abuse Registry Check

-Knowledge of social service delivery systems, court system, and family violence issues is essential

-Demonstrated ability to facilitate group sessions and conduct crisis interventions

-Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills

-Experience working in a First Nations community and ability to speak and understand the Mi’kmaw language is preferred

-Understanding of the fundamental concepts of culture, including various perceptions, behaviors, and values

-Must possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record and have access to a vehicle for work purposes

-Ability to work effectively both in a team and individually

-Strong time-management skills and ability to meet structured timelines

-Ability to maintain a high-level of confidentiality and exercise sound judgment

-Willingness to enhance knowledge and understanding through additional training and workshops

Classification Range: LV5(0.80) – LV5(1.20)

Salary range: $51,647.70 – $76,112.410
