The City of Iqaluit is looking for a Roads Labourer to join our team!

Title: Roads Labourer
Department: Public Works
Status: Full Time permanent
Rate of Pay: $31.61/ per hour 40 hours a week
Settlement Allowance: $20,907.43 per annum
Union Status: Unionized

The Roads Labourer plays a key role in maintaining the cleanliness, functionality, and safety of municipal infrastructure. This position performs a variety of manual labour tasks in support of municipal services, including road maintenance, waste management, and general operations.

The Roads Labourer is responsible for helping ensure that public spaces such as roads, sidewalks, and municipal grounds are well maintained, clean, and free of hazards. Duties include assisting with road work such as culvert installation and drainage improvements, performing traffic control during road maintenance activities, and supporting cemetery operations during burials.

The role requires a strong work ethic, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment under varying weather conditions.

Required Education and Experience:

Minimum Level of Education/Training: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Minimum Level of Experience: Previous experience in municipal services, construction, public works, or manual labor is an asset.

Indigenous Language: Preferred

Security: A Criminal record Check is required for the position

As per Article 23 of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement, priority will be given to Nunavut Land Claim Beneficiaries who meet the criteria.

Le manœuvre dans le transport routier joue un rôle clé dans le maintien de la propreté, du bon fonctionnement et de la sécurité des infrastructures municipales. Ce poste comprend la réalisation de diverses tâches manuelles liées aux services municipaux, dont l’entretien des routes, la gestion des déchets et diverses autres activités d’exploitation générales.

Le manœuvre dans le transport routier doit veiller à ce que les espaces publics, comme les routes, les trottoirs et les terrains municipaux, soient bien entretenus, propres et exempts de dangers. Ses fonctions consistent notamment à participer aux travaux routiers, entre autres l’installation de ponceaux et l’amélioration du drainage, à assurer la fluidité de la circulation lors de travaux d’entretien routier et à apporter son soutien aux opérations d’inhumation au cimetière.

Le rôle exige une solide éthique de travail, un engagement envers la sécurité et la capacité de travailler efficacement dans un environnement d’équipe dans des conditions météorologiques variées.

Formation et expérience requises :

Niveau minimum d’études/de formation : Diplôme d’études secondaires ou l’équivalent, de préférence.

Niveau minimum d’expérience : Une expérience préalable dans les services municipaux, la construction, les travaux publics ou le travail manuel est un atout.
