Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (SLP-A) / Communication Disorders Assistant (CDA)

Halton Hills Academy

Halton Hills Academy ( a sister company of Turning Point Children's Therapy & Development Centre) is seeking a compassionate and skilled Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (SLP-A) / Communication Disorders Assistant (CDA) to join our pediatric therapy team. Working under the clinical supervision of a registered Speech-Language Pathologist, the successful candidate will support children in developing speech, language, and communication skills through individualized, evidence-informed interventions.

This role offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment supporting children with diverse communication and developmental needs.

Key Responsibilities

Provide communication intervention to children with speech, language, and communication challenges as directed by the supervising SLP.
Implement individualized therapy plans, strategies, and protocols developed by the SLP.
Support development of speech, language, social communication, and functional communication skills through engaging activities.
Apply language facilitation strategies, including Gestalt Language Processing (GLP), visual supports, and communication techniques recommended by the SLP.
Assist with programming, implementation, and troubleshooting of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems.
Maintain accurate therapy notes, documentation, and data collection according to clinical standards.
Share observations and progress updates with the supervising SLP.
Collaborate with families, educators, and interdisciplinary team members to support communication goals across environments.
Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and professional development opportunities.
Maintain confidentiality and comply with PHIPA and organizational policies.

Qualifications & Experience

Diploma or degree in Communication Disorders Assistant (CDA) or an equivalent recognized program.
Experience working with children with speech, language, developmental, or communication needs.
Experience supporting school-aged children with articulation and fluency disorders is an asset.
Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and developmental delays is preferred.
Knowledge of AAC systems and Gestalt Language Processing (GLP) is an asset.
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
