Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Needs Camp Coordinator to oversee and support campers with diverse needs during our summer program. The ideal candidate will be committed to creating an inclusive, engaging, and safe environment for children requiring special attention. This role involves planning activities, providing individualized support, and collaborating with staff and families to ensure a positive camp experience for all participants. The role includes collaborating with the sales and staffing team to make day-of changes to the schedule, use of software such as Jane.app, Microsoft and Canva and implimenting small group activities twice daily.
Duties
- Develop and implement inclusive activity plans tailored to the needs of children with disabilities or special needs
- Provide direct support and supervision to campers, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout the day
- Collaborate with team members to adapt programs and activities for children with varying abilities
- This position combines administrative and clinical knowledge by offering daily opportunities to plan and impliment a variety of activities for kids and teens with exceptionality
- Facilitate group activities with clients with autism (ages 4-24, grouped by age and interest) such as crafts, hands-on-science, simple games, gym activities, etc.
- Liaise with stakeholders such as Synergy Kids staff and families, both face-to-face at the reception desk and via virtual meetings
- Filed in-bound calls such as day-of absences from clients and staff
- Maintain accurate records for attendance using Jane.app (training provided)
- Daily delegation of tasks to Facility Attendants, Camp Counsellors and Respite Staff
- Scheduling of last-minute absences/cancellations for staff and clients
- Preparing activities and materials to be used during summer camp
- Providing written and verbal feedback to staff as directed by Synergy Kids management team
- Lead by example in fostering an environment of respect, patience, and encouragement
- Support the training of staff members on best practices for working with children with special needs
Requirements
- Experience working with children in educational or recreational settings, especially those with special needs or disabilities
- Background in early childhood education, tutoring, applied behaviour analysis, communicative disorders assistant, or teaching is highly desirable
- Strong understanding of working with children requiring additional support or accommodations
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, parents, and campers
- Compassionate, patient, and adaptable approach to caregiving and instruction
- Ability to plan engaging activities that promote inclusion and development
- Prior experience in camp settings or youth programs is preferred but not required
Shifts and Scheduling
- Monday-Friday between the hours of 8am-5pm (30 hours per week)

-Rate of pay is $22-30 per hour
