Unit Summary:
Metrics confirm that our Emergency Department is one of the top performing hospitals in the province. The Emergency Department is a 42-bed unit that serves the community of Burlington and the surrounding area. Last year, we had approximately 45,000 visits and our volume continues to grow. Our Emergency serves patients of all ages and treats patients of every medical and mental health illness. We have several different areas in our department that provide care specific to the needs of the patients in that area. Our PES unit (Psychiatric Emergency Services) is a unique 4-bed mental health unit in our department. Our dedicated multi-disciplinary team collaborate to provide safe, high quality care to our patient population. This ambitious team delivers care reflecting our values of compassion, accountability, respect and excellence. The unit is supported by 24 hour Charge Nurses, a Professional Practice Educator and a Unit Manager. Position Summary:
The Registered Nurse (Expeditor) - Emergency Department plays a key role in enhancing patient flow and supporting timely care within the Emergency Department. This position focuses on coordinating and expediting patient progression through the care continuum, supporting both inpatient transfer of accountability (TOA) processes and outpatient flow. The Expeditor also assists with EMS offload during periods of surge to help reduce offload times. Working collaboratively with the interprofessional team, this role contributes to safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.
Qualifications:
- Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
- Must have a minimum of two (2) years current or recent clinical experience in an Emergency Department
- Proven competency in triage, with experience in CTAS required
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
- Coronary Care Nursing 1 required; must be obtained within 1 year of start date
- Demonstrated knowledge of Emergency Department flow, including both ambulatory and admitted patients
- Solid understanding of P4R metrics, EMS agreements, and key performance indicators
- Demonstrate the ability to competently assess patients, and intervene appropriately in a timely manner
- Demonstrate the knowledge, experience, and ability to provide care for patients with a variety of needs including but not limited to: initiation and maintenance of IV's, venipuncture, medication administration delivered via various routes, blood and blood product administration, patient controlled analgesia, capillary blood glucose monitoring, NG tubes, chest tubes, enteral feeds, wound management, oxygen therapy
- Proven ability to function effectively in emergency and high-pressure situations
- Demonstrated strong critical thinking, organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated effective documentation skills
- Ability to navigate and access hospital systems and resources effectively
- Utilizes effective and respectful communication skills when coordinating patient flow with ED physicians, team members, and other departments within the hospital
- Demonstrate a caring, compassionate, customer focused attitude toward patients and family
- Demonstrates a commitment to quality and patient safety, and the safety of self and co-workers
- Demonstrated alignment with the Mission, Vision, Values and the Care Commitment of JBH
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous education and learning for self and others
- Demonstrate reliable attendance, punctuality, availability, and performance
