Reporting Relationship
The Tutor Escort will work under the direction of the Childcare Supervisor or Principal.
Position Summary
The Tutor Escort is responsible for the provision of classroom support and one-to-one instruction where applicable.
Essential Functions
Work collaboratively with the Centre’s Resource Teacher, Early Childhood Educators and Educational Consultants; observe behaviors of the students and document any special needs or concerns, (ie., behavior, speech, physical, emotional, or health related); and record such observations in corresponding student files
Be familiar with individual students’ needs and their individual support plans
Ensure necessary documentation is recorded daily
Assist in keeping program room and outdoor play area in a safe and orderly fashion
Assist and participate in all daily activities and routines
Be willing to support and train relief staff or practicum students
Be familiar with and perform all roles and responsibilities of the position
Assist student(s) with activities/classroom routines under direct supervision of classroom educators
- Monitor and report to classroom teacher on student progress
- Assist in preparation of learning materials and learning environment
- Accompany and supervise students during all activities on and off-Centre premises and on field trips
- Work 1:1 with special needs students with mobility, communication, and personal hygiene
- Prepare classroom displays and bulletin boards
- Carry out behavior modification, personal development, and other therapeutic programs under supervision of professionals such as special education instructors, speech, and language pathologists
Assist with preparing student assessments (i.e., ASQ; Nipissing Screening)
- Interact effectively with students and coworkers/colleagues
- Assist in instructing of students in the Ojibwe language and provide related programming where applicable
- Adhere to the Centre’s policies and procedures inclusive of the Childcare and Early Years Act; the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice; MFN’s personnel policy
Qualifications and Requirements Preferred:
- College Diploma in related fields of education or equivalent or social services; PSW or DSW qualifications, with a minimum of two (2) years’ work/volunteer related experience with the completion of secondary school or equivalent
Minimum:
- College Diploma in a related field of study or five (5) years’ work experience in related field
Other:
Good rapport with children/students
- Good interpersonal skills, dependability, reliability and willingness to work in cooperation within a strong team environment
- Must have knowledge and/or experience with the culture, history, and customs of the Anishnaabe
- Understanding and fluency in Anishinabemowin is a strong asset; or must be willingness to learn
- First Aid Certificate and CPR would be an asset
- Police VSS requirement upon hire
- Confirmation of UTD vaccinations and provide an employee health assessment upon
