Reporting to the Underwriting Manager, the Senior - Intermediate Personal Lines Underwriter is responsible for accepting, rejecting, and amending new business, renewals, and endorsements within allocated scope of authority. The Senior -Intermediate Underwriter performs risk analysis using technology as well as external data sources for the purposes of quoting, negotiating, and authorizing the acceptance of risk within established authority levels. In collaboration with other Underwriters, Insurance Advisors, Claims professionals and Loss Prevention team members. The Senior -Intermediate Underwriter works to minimize losses, manage risk exposures, and generate beneficial solutions for our customers and BCM overall.
QUALIFICATIONS WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
· Post-secondary education or equivalent training and experience
· Actively pursuing Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation, minimum 2 CIP courses completed
· Valid Ontario driver’s licence
· Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office; Excel, Work, PowerPoint, Outlook
· Knowledge of Guidewire is an asset.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL:
· Assist Insurance Advisor(s), Underwriter(s), Claim(s) and Loss Prevention Team Members in addressing and resolving client needs.
· While working in a team environment, provide exceptional service to assigned Insurance Advisor(s) and portfolio(s).
· Present clients with prompt, courteous and professional services in an accurate and timely manner.
· Provide technical underwriting expertise for Portfolio of account. Reviews and assess lower to medium complexity risks, following documented workflows and established underwriting authorities.
· Analyze risk material presented to determine coverage eligibility.
· Provide feedback for file reviews on an ongoing basis to assist with compliance of underwriting guidelines and training opportunities.
· Discuss risk alerts with Insurance Advisor(s) regarding misleading documentation or suspected fraud.
· Review policy transactions for completeness and accuracy. Follow-up with Insurance Advisors on missing or required information for files as needed.
· Support Insurance Advisor(s) with quoting and policy maintenance in accordance with Underwriting rules, guidelines, and practices.
· Follow procedures for data quality and management, maintaining accuracy of data in Guidewire.
· Maintain and develop key relationships both internally and externally.
- Escalate difficult and complex items or inquires to the appropriate party(ies) as required and as established in underwriting authorities.
· Ensure compliance with Large Risk, High Value Dwellings and Reinsurance procedures as per established underwriting authorities.
· Prepare and issue registered letters and other manual documents with a high degree of accuracy for customers using a variety of software programs.
· Issue policy transactions within established service standards, calculate manual rates, identify gaps of pertinent information required and correspond with the applicable Insurance Advisors.
Experience:
· 5+ years for senior & intermediate 3-5 years experience in insurance industry and/or P&C underwriting experience
