About the role:
Reporting to the Manager, Costing & Financial Strategy, the Senior Business Analyst - Costing - will develop, implement, and maintain the data in the case costing database, ensuring all reporting requirements are met. You will have a strong understanding of costing methodologies, as well as broader financial planning and analytical frameworks, and will support the hospital’s information and analysis needs by analyzing, interpreting, and reporting clinical and financial information on both a regular and ad-hoc basis. The ability to identify and resolve data quality issues and develop positive relationships is also a key performance expectation. You will contribute to the use of case costing data for operational and strategic decision-making through various analytical activities. This role will also have an opportunity to support strategic growth and business development initiatives by assisting in delivering costing insights, financial models and cash flow analysis that guide new program proposals, service expansions, and business cases.
What you'll be doing:
- Responsible for the annual Case Costing submission to Ontario Health
- Maintain case costing system, including the maintenance, loading and processing of data
- Detailed analysis to ensure the integrity of data quality for all financial data, clinical utilization data, case costing data, and clinical data sets
- Participate in a collaborative team-based approach to problem solving, working with both clinical and corporate teams
- Attend meetings related to case costing as deemed appropriate
- Identify opportunities to improve processes to streamline activities and reduce duplication
- Assist in the development of case costing tools for utilization review and management
- Assist in the identification and development of policies and procedures related to case costing
- Assist in new program development, providing detailed cost modelling, financial impact assessments, and ROI analysis
- Support the development of complex operating and capital budgets, including scenario modelling and financial forecasting, in support of new initiatives and organizational planning
- Contribute to long-term financial planning and modelling for capital projects, integrating operating and capital considerations, including cash flow analysis
- Development and production of standard and ad hoc reports and analysis
- Collaborate with all hospital personnel on matters relating to case costing
- Provide education to hospital staff on case costing methodologies
- Support internal and external requests for case costing-related data
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Attendance is congruent with the hospital's attendance policy
What you bring:
- Degree required in business, health sciences or relevant program of study
- Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) an asset
- Minimum 5 years financial/clinical analysis experience, including accounting, reporting, variance analysis and business case development (healthcare preferred)
- Exposure to Ontario Case Costing methodology and submission process is an asset
- Familiarity with OHRS (MIS) Guidelines is preferred
- Experience in a health care setting is an asset
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Demonstrates ability to problem solve
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and customer services skills
- Knowledge in business and financial models related to the Healthcare sector
- Demonstrated excellent computer skills: MS Office site (esp. Excel/Access), reporting applications (Crystal Reports), SQL
- Experience in doing presentations and providing educational sessions to all levels within an organization
- Experience with health utilization concepts and databases (e.g. HIGs, weighted cases, Discharge Abstract Database, the National Ambulatory Care Reporting System) is an asset
- Experience with Management Information Systems methodology
- Experience in data manipulation
- Experience in database management techniques
