Full-Time Academic Radiation Oncologist
The Department of Oncology at McMaster University and Hamilton Health Sciences are seeking an exceptional Academic Radiation Oncologist with specialized training and experience in GU brachytherapy. The successful candidate will be part of a team to develop and open a Prostate Brachytherapy program in our existing fully functional brachytherapy suite. The successful candidate will hold a full-time academic appointment in the Division of Radiation Oncology, Department of Oncology in the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University.

The Juravinski Cancer Centre (JCC) is a large academic cancer centre located adjacent to the Juravinski Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario and serves the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant region. The Division of Radiation Oncology consists of 26 full-time Radiation Oncologists who are engaged in clinical practice, education and research. Members of the Division provide approximately 5,000 radiation oncology consultations per year across the region. The program treats all major disease sites and is a tertiary referral centre for sarcoma, central nervous system tumours, gynecological oncology, pediatric oncology and bone marrow transplantation. The cancer centre is a state-of-the-art facility, which houses ten megavoltage treatment units, one Cyberknife, one orthovoltage unit and a state-of-the-art HDR brachytherapy program with MRI simulator next to the brachytherapy suite. Treatment preparation is undertaken using three CT simulators, and one MRI simulator. Treatment planning systems include Eclipse, BrainLab, Cyberknife Multiplan, Brachy Vision and VariSeeds. We have an active Stereotactic Radiotherapy Program and High Dose Rate Gynecology Brachytherapy program. With the expertise of this new hire, we will be launching our new GU brachytherapy program.
As academic radiation oncologists, successful candidates are expected to contribute to clinical service in their primary area of focus as well as a secondary disease site. Local disease site groups have strong clinical trials programs and are represented in respective provincial disease site activities. All radiation oncology faculty participate in the radiation oncology on-call roster and the ward consultation service for the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre. A hospitalist program as MRP exists for the daily management of oncology patients.
Successful candidates are expected to engage in research and educational activities. Members of the Division of Radiation Oncology are expected to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate educational activities within the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine and the Radiation Oncology Residency Training Program. The Radiation Oncology Residency Training Program is fully accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
The JCC has a large Clinical Trials Department contributing to Phase 1 to 3 clinical trials through the Canadian Clinical Trials Group, Trials Research and Clinical Evidence research group, industry-sponsored trials and investigator-initiated clinical trials. Academic faculty are expected to actively participate in the clinical trials program. Multiple opportunities exist for clinical, health services and translational research. The academic Department of Oncology is closely aligned with the Escarpment Cancer Research Institute (ECRI), working collaboratively to provide access to clinical, translational and health services researchers.
Candidates are expected to possess the following:
- A valid license to practice in the province of Ontario issued by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
- FRCP in Radiation Oncology, or equivalent qualifications
- Membership in the Canadian Medical Protective Association, or equivalent
Fellowship training in brachytherapy or extensive independent work experience

Compensation for Clinical Faculty is derived from multiple sources and varies based on clinical activity, specialty and practice arrangements.
