Job Overview
We are seeking a friendly and motivated part-time sales associate to join our retail team. At Pet Valu Manotick, we're passionate about helping pets live healthy, happy lives. As a part of our team, you'll play an important role in creating a welcoming shopping experience while helping pet lovers find the best products and solutions for their furry, feathered, and scaled family members.
Responsibilities
- Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers, answering questions, and providing knowledgeable recommendations.
- Help pet parents find the right food, treats, toys, and supplies to meet their pets' needs.
- Process purchases accurately using the point-of-sale (POS) system.
- Receive, stock, and merchandise products while maintaining an organized, clean, and fully stocked sales floor.
- Assist with inventory management, pricing, and promotional displays.
- Support daily store operations, including opening and closing duties as required.
- Promote pet adoptions, community events, and Pet Valu programs.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for customers, pets, and team members.
- Work collaboratively with the store team to achieve sales goals and provide an exceptional customer experience.
Qualifications
- Experience in retail or customer service is preferred.
- Working knowledge of POS systems is preferred.
- A genuine love for animals and a passion for helping pet owners.
- Friendly, positive, and customer-focused attitude.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn about pet nutrition, health, and products.
- Comfortable standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs repetitively, and performing physical tasks such as stocking shelves and moving merchandise.
- Ability to have reliable means of transportation to and from the store.
- Must be comfortable around cats and dogs.
- Availability to work Thursdays during the day (9am - 5pm) is required.
- Flexible availability for evenings and weekends. Typical weekday shifts are 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
There is a mandatory online training program (approx. 17 hours) with a 180 day deadline to complete. It is expected that new hires are committed to a long-term position.
Please note: This position primarily consists of evening shifts (typically 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.), but requires daytime availability on Thursdays to assist with stocking shelves. Availability to work weekends is considered a strong asset. Applicants must be able to work these shifts consistently. Candidates who do not meet the Thursday daytime availability requirement will not be considered.
Pay: From $17.60 per hour
