We are currently seeking a Rope Access Supervisor / Trainer to support RAM’s field construction operations and Training Division. This is a hybrid role, with approximately 50% field supervision and 50% training support; subject to change based on market demand. The role reports to Operations / Project Management for field assignments and to the Training Manager for training-related duties.
Duties & Responsibilities
Field Supervisor
- Act as a competent IRATA Level 3 Supervisor on RAM field projects.
- Plan rope access systems, rescue plans, rigging, hazard controls, and safe work methods.
- Provide safety management, worksite organization, and supervisory leadership to rope access crews.
- Execute rope access projects from setup through completion.
- Supervise and ensure the safety, performance, and productivity of technicians and team members.
- Maintain a solutions-focused approach when dealing with clients, crews, and subcontractors.
- Perform and verify buddy checks, equipment checks, rigging checks, and rope access system checks prior to use.
- Ensure Level 1 technicians and other workers are properly supervised and using appropriate PPE.
- Coordinate with Operations Managers regarding project work, schedules, documentation, and execution.
- Liaise with clients and site operations teams to confirm scope, site expectations, and safe execution.
- Prepare and submit required project information, site documentation, and reports to RAM HQ in a timely manner.
- Travel to various project locations as required.
- Perform other related duties as reasonably required by the company
Rope Access Trainer
- Assist the Training Manager with delivery of rope access training in accordance with RAM procedures and applicable standards.
- Support trainee induction and orientation, including review of risk assessments, rescue plans, method statements, and training area requirements.
- Deliver course content competently, methodically, and professionally.
- Maintain supervision, safety, and organization throughout training courses.
- Support development and improvement of training programs, course content, training facilities, and training methods.
- Support a positive customer experience while maintaining RAM safety standards and operational requirements.
- Maintain the training facility and equipment in a safe, tidy, organized, and hygienic condition.
- Identify faulty or damaged equipment and ensure it is removed, quarantined, or reported as required.
- Liaise with IRATA assessors, SPRAT evaluators, and other third parties before and during evaluations.
- Keep the Training Manager informed of course progress, trainee issues, and assessment results.
- Complete and file required course documentation, including trainee records and logbooks.
- Assist with training-related administration, including candidate registration, phone inquiries, walk-in inquiries, certificates, data entry, statistics, marketing, presentations, and business development support.
- Perform other related duties as reasonably required by the company
Required Certifications & Qualifications
- Current IRATA Level 3 certification.
- Current SPRAT Level 3 certification.
- Current RASS - Rope Access Safety Supervisor certification, or ability to obtain is an asset
- Instructor / Trainee Instructor status or willingness to work toward full Instructor status.
- Strong working knowledge of rope access systems, rescue techniques, equipment, rigging, maneuvers, climbing, hauling, and advanced rope access supervision.
- Ontario Supervisor Health and Safety Awareness in 5 Steps, Working at Heights certification, WHMIS certification.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as an IRATA Level 3 Supervisor is an asset.
- Previous customer service experience preferred.
- Strong communication, leadership, professionalism, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic computer systems.
- Working knowledge of the IRATA International Code of Practice.
- Knowledge of equipment inspection, buddy checking, rigging verification, and worksite documentation.
- Valid driver’s licence required.
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
Work Conditions And Physical Capabilities
Field / Construction: Be capable of functioning in climatic extremes, work under pressure, handling heavy loads, physically demanding, attention to detail, good hand-eye coordination, combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching and kneeling.
Training Center: Office / Safety Training Environment, Coworking space within a team office including; kitchenette, staff bathroom and Training Facility, training office and gear store.

- Confined Space Rescue Instructor Certifications.
- Tower Rescue Instructor Certifications.
- GWO (Global Wind Organization) Instructor.
- PPE Inspection Courses.
- Hoisting and Rigging Instructor Certifications.

- First Aid, EMR, First Responder Instructor Certifications.
- Other occupational health and safety certifications / instructional experience (JHSC, Supervisory training, fit testing, LOTO, OHSA)
