General Purpose

Reporting to the Director of Student Wellness Services (SWS), the SWS Navigator Supervisor works with the SWS Navigation team to strengthen navigation practice, respond to evolving student needs, and address systemic barriers affecting students’ ability to access and benefit from wellness supports. The Supervisor oversees day‑to‑day navigation operations to ensure services are student‑centered, equitable, and aligned with best practices, institutional priorities, and the broader continuum of care within Student Wellness Services (SWS).

The position exists to ensure high‑quality, coordinated, and integrated wellness navigation services by providing leadership and oversight to the Navigation Team, refining operational processes, and supporting effective collaboration across SWS and academic colleges or departments. The Supervisor ensures role clarity; appropriate scope of practice within navigator work; consistency in screening, assessment, documentation, and service planning; effective outreach and community building in the colleges/departments across campus; and the effective use of coordinated care pathways. They work closely with departments and academic colleges to ensure wellness navigation is integrated, responsive, and contributes to a positive, healthy, and inclusive student experience.

Duties and Responsibilties

The Supervisor provides leadership and supervision for Student Wellness Navigators, fostering professional growth and practice consistency through individual support, team consultation, and training. Through this work, the Supervisor promotes inclusive, anti‑racist, anti‑oppressive, trauma‑informed, and social determinants of health–informed approaches across all aspects of navigation practice. The incumbent cultivates a participatory and collaborative leadership style that strengthens team cohesion and reinforces shared responsibility for student wellbeing across Student Wellness Services.

In addition to supervisory responsibilities, the Supervisor maintains an active student‑facing wellness navigation role. They provide direct support to students with personal, social, or mental health concerns, using proactive, relationship‑based, flexible, and responsive navigation approaches.

A core leadership function of the role is supporting the effective integration of Navigators within academic colleges and designated departments. The Supervisor builds and sustains collaborative relationships with college and department leadership, faculty, advisors, coaches and student‑facing staff to ensure SWS Navigators are visible, trusted, and meaningfully embedded within academic/department contexts. The Supervisor ensures Navigators remain closely connected to SWS while embedded in colleges/departments, providing outreach across campus to boost awareness of SWS services, facilitating wellness education/information to meet student need, as well as providing quality oversight and alignment across the institution.

Requirements

University degree in the field of social work or other related discipline along with a minimum of three (5) years direct experience working in a mental health environment.
Supervisory experience encompassing staff oversight, team leadership, and program development.
Experience working with individuals with diverse and intersecting identities and/or lived experience within equity seeking communities, contributing to anti-oppressive, anti-racist and trauma-informed practice with students.
Knowledge of the student experience, particularly with regards to the social determinants of health.
Experience in a post-secondary setting is an asset, including familiarity with academic policies, semester timelines, and the common concerns of students.
Understanding the broader mental health system, including emergency mental health services, procedures, and legislation. Clear understanding of privacy legislation. PHIPA, Mental Health Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, AODA, etc.
Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making skills.
Highly developed ability to set priorities effectively in a fast- paced role.
Suicide risk assessment and intervention skills, verbal de-escalation, crisis management skills (trained in ASIST or equivalent experience or program).
Knowledge of electronic medical records systems.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; strong written, oral and presentation skills. Technical skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
May work in the various locations across the university depending on service need.

The target hiring salary for this position is minimum and up to 96% of midpoint for the salary grade.
