Reporting to the Manager, Southeast Galt, the Information Services & Electronic Resources Librarian is responsible for managing and maintaining access to CPL’s digital resources (e.g., databases, ebooks, emagazines), for Cambridge Public Library. They are responsible for the selection, acquisition, and management of electronic resources. This includes evaluating new electronic resources (e-resources), negotiating licensing agreements, and maintaining vendor relations. They work closely with other library staff to provide training and support for the use of electronic resources, including delivery of programs on digital resources and services to the public. They are a member of the public services team at CPL’s Southeast Galt location, including serving as the person in charge. This position will work at other locations until the new Southeast Galt location is opened.
What You’ll Do
As an Information Services & Electronic Resources Librarian, you will:
- Responsibility for program/service delivery (internal/external), coordination of staff
- Review and evaluate electronic resources for use by the public and make recommendations for their acquisition, renewal, and cancellation to the Director, Digital and Public Services.
- Under the direction of the Director, Digital and Public Services, support new e-resource discoverability, vendor relations, e-resource licensing, database trials, and brand consistency.
- Carries out the selection, acquisition and deselection of all electronic books, magazines, and video content for the CPL digital collection.
- Working with the Digital Services department, assists with the configuration and troubleshooting of e-resources to ensure seamless access to members.
- Upload and maintain catalogued records in the system. Apply cataloguing standards including MARC 21, Dewey Decimal Classification, and Library of Congress Subject Headings.
- In collaboration with the location manager, completes location collection management assignments as required, such as deselection and maintenance.
- Provides public service, answering member questions in person, by telephone or by internet:
- General Inquiries.
- Catalogue search and use of available reference tools.
- Advanced reference queries including assisting library members in locating and accessing information resources, answering their questions, and providing guidance on research, to support member information needs. Acts as a resource to location staff for advanced questions.
- Advanced Readers Advisory including assisting members to find resources using the library catalogue, electronic databases, microfilm equipment and the internet and making recommendations to patrons regarding leisure reading, viewing and listening material. Acts as a resource to location staff for advanced questions.
- Instruct members in the use of computers and/or software for users with all skill levels.
- Registers new members and updates membership card as required.
- Contributes to the promotion of CPL services and collections by writing magazine articles, material reviews and website content as requested.
- Facilitates or conducts adult programming and group tours in coordination with the Community Engagement Team and the Location Manager.
- Responsible for addressing inappropriate or disruptive behaviour of members according to established procedures.
Project management (planning, producing, implementation, monitoring, reporting)
- Develop and execute workflows to track and anticipate electronic resources renewals.
- Collect and compile usage statistics for internal use and annual reporting as required.
- Assess usage patterns and recommend and implement user experience improvement for all of the library’s public-facing electronic resources.
- Work collaboratively with the Director, Digital and Public Services in researching, evaluating, recommending and planning continuous process improvement in e-resources management workflows.
- Working with the Marketing and Communications department, develops, executes and maintains an electronic resources engagement plan, including promotion and collecting feedback.
- Working with the Training and Special Projects Librarian, develops staff training materials for e-resources.
Other duties as required.
- Acts as Person in Charge when assigned.
- Provides some direction to student shelvers, other location staff and volunteers.
What You Bring
To be qualified for and successful in the role, you should have:
Required:
- Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or Master of Information Studies
- Two (2) years experience in project management of digital holdings or electronic resources
- Three (3) years of related work experience in a public library setting
- Strong understanding of collection development principles and metadata standards
- Advanced computer skills and comfort working in electronic cataloguing environments.
- Ability to connect with people of all ages and offer hands-on assistance.
- Strong customer service background.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to explain complex technology to non-technical users
- Highly-organized, and able to carry out job functions with flexibility, creativity and initiative
- Excellent organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Excellent multitasking skills and ability to complete responsibilities on time
- Has an inclusive and empathetic approach and a service-oriented mindset
- A passion for supporting the diverse interests and needs of the Cambridge community
Preferred:
- Proficient knowledge of MARC21 and current cataloguing rules and standards.
- Experience with ILS (library systems) and/or discovery services such as Sierra and Bibliocommons.

Salary Range: $77,561 per annum (Level 10 in our salary grid).
Hours: This is a full-time permanent position, 35 hours in a weekly period.
