Duties
As the Fire Crew Member, deliver wildland fuel management, prescribed fire and wildfire suppression services in support of Parks Canada’s fire management programs at Pukaskwa National Park and various other locations across the country. As a part of the Resource Conservation and Pukaskwa National Park Team, you will assist in a variety of projects, vegetation management, incident response and prevention and visitor safety strategies. The job can be physically demanding, requiring that you work in remote locations of the park, under adverse weather conditions with limited means of communications.

Intent of the process
This is to staff 1 vacant position for operational season 2026. Results may be used in the future to fill permanent or temporary vacancies that may arise at the Fire Crew Member position (GT 02) at Pukaskwa National Park and other locations, for various tenures, such as: Seasonal Indeterminate, Term, Acting Assignment or Assignment at level, depending on status of the selected candidate.

✔️Maintenance of a valid Class G Driver’s License (Class L,N or other graduated license will not be accepted)
✔️ Will be required to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks, including Occupational Health Assessment for firefighters
✔️Meet and maintain certified status for the Canadian Physical Performance Exchange Standard for Type 1 Wildland Fire Fighters (WFX-FIT) in accordance with Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC) Requirements
✔️Successful completion of ICS100/200 or higher level of incident management training (organized by the park)
✔️Successful completion of Standard First Aid-CPR or higher level (organized by the park)
✔️Successful completion of Small Domestic Vessel Basic Safety (organized by the park)
✔️Meet and maintain certification for chain saw use
✔️Meet and maintain certified status for hover exit for light and intermediate helicopters
✔️Meet and maintain certified status for Class D Heli-sling for light and intermediate helicopters
✔️Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment
✔️Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation
✔️Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required
✔️Willingness to obtain certification in the operation of various forms of ground (e.g. all-terrain vehicles) and marine (motorized and non-motorized vessels) as required
✔️Willingness to complete the Canadian Firearms Safety Course.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
✔️Experience in wildfire management
✔️Experience in operating an ATV (with successful completion of the Canadian ATV Safety Course), using an handheld VHF Radio, and in using various informatics software
❗Preference will be given to candidates who already successfully completed the SP100 course or CIFFC equivalent, and/or who have experience in wildfire management.
❗Preference will be given to those that have passed this year’s WFX-FIT test (meeting the National standard).
