This position may be located in any city across the Niagara Region.

Training and Availability

During the onboarding process, you are expected to be available for full-time hours throughout the training period. This period will include classroom instruction, completion of various certifications such as ITLS, CEVO, and AIV (if applicable), as well as a minimum of 5 coaching shifts. The coaching shifts will be scheduled based on the availability of the coaching medics. Upon successful completion of all training components, you will be required to submit your availability and be available to work according to the requirements outlined in the collective agreement.

Written Evaluation

You will be required to complete a written evaluation that will be completed through an online platform. This will take place on July 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.

The written exam fee is at a cost of $22.60 (taxes included) and is at the expense of the candidate.

The deadline to register will be July 6, 2026, at 12:00 p.m.

More details regarding the written exam will be sent to you in a subsequent email once the posting closes.

Physical Evaluation

Upon passing the written exam, all candidates are required to complete a physical evaluation through OPPAT. The deadline to complete the testing is August 7, 2026.

Successful OPPAT test results dated on or after December 1, 2025, can be submitted and will be considered valid.

The physical evaluation is at a cost of $353.12 (taxes included) and is at the expense of the candidate.

Additional Considerations

Candidates must hold a valid (no restrictions) Class F licence by September 21, 2026, and must possess a valid uncertified 3-year Drivers Abstract by this date. Candidates must also be eligible for, but not necessarily possess, a valid passport by September 21, 2026.

Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Provide emergency medical care and transportation for ill and injured patients to health care facilities by conducting patient assessments and evaluations, prioritizing and providing patient care in accordance with basic and advanced life support program standards, guidelines, methods and techniques and Base Hospital directives.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Current qualifications as an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) as per the Ambulance Act of Ontario.

Paramedic Program Diploma/Certificate.

Advanced Paramedic Program Certificate.

Certification by the Center for Paramedic Education and Research (CPER) as an ACP prior to start date.

CPR certification as described by the Ambulance Act.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

Experience as a Primary Care Paramedic or Advanced Care Paramedic.

Knowledge of physiological and pathophysiological principles, anatomy, pharmacology, and pharmacokinetics.

Knowledge of the principles of MCI Management sufficient to effectively manage a mass casualty incident until relieved by more qualified personnel.

SKILLS

Written and verbal communication skills sufficient to perform documentation and related administrative duties, as well as to relate to patients, families, and other health care professionals in a calm and professional manner.

Demonstrated skills in the areas of teamwork, problem solving and leadership sufficient to deal with crisis situations.

Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.

Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.

Basic computer skills.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Physical dexterity, coordination, and strength, including fine and gross motor skills and a demonstrated ability to perform patient extrication, positioning, lifting, and carrying techniques to rapidly access, treat, convey, and manage patient conditions under frequently awkward, difficult, and unpredictable environmental conditions.

Work is performed independently within established regional policies, procedures and guidelines, Base Hospital policies and directives, and the Ambulance Act and all applicable Standards.

In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Records Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening, and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate prior to commencing employment and as required based on business or legislative needs.

Must possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted class 'F' license for the class of the vehicle operated.

Must maintain eligibility for a valid passport.

Free of communicable disease as per the Ambulance Service Communicable Disease Standards.

Up-to-date immunizations as per the Ambulance Act of Ontario.

An annual influenza vaccine is recommended.
