Summary of the role
We are currently seeking a Research Assistant II to provide research and administrative assistance to the Bruyère Health Memory Clinic Research Team and to complete day-to-day tasks associated with multiple projects and several clinical trials within memory. Research in the Bruyère Health Memory Clinic investigates new diagnostic tools, as well as novel pharmacologic and technologic interventions, and treatments for cognitive impairment, dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease, focused on supporting activities of daily living and driving.
Research Assistant II will support various tasks related to the daily research activities of the research team. Key responsibilities include providing support in areas such as grant submissions, completion of ethics materials, data collection and basic analysis, daily logistics to ensure that project objectives are met. The individual must be adaptable, flexible, and able to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Supporting logistics and day-to-day activities associated with various research projects
- Recruiting and scheduling research participants
- Conducting study visits with research participants per visit study schedules
- Administering measures (e.g. cognitive screening tests, questionnaires, surveys) to study participants with MCI and /or Alzheimer’s disease
- Tracking participant stipend payments
- Meeting regularly with investigators to provide recruitment and project updates
- Supporting grant and manuscript writing, ethics applications and conference posters preparation
- Maintaining and updating Research Ethics Board documentation (e.g. annual renewals, amendments, responses to REBs)
- Planning project team research meetings and meetings with stakeholders, documenting meeting notes
- Collecting and tabulating research data, including technical data from the driving simulator, and ensuring data quality
- Conducting data analysis with Excel Stats, SPSS or NVIVO
- Preparing and formatting research findings (Excel, Graphs, Pivot Tables, etc.)
- Assistance in creating presentations and posters in Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation using existing research material
- Tracking papers in progress, being submitted and published
Additional duties may be added as the projects progress
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in psychology, social work, life sciences or neuroscience with one year of relevant research experience
- Experience administering cognitive assessments is strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of relevant data analysis software (SPSS, Excel, NVIVO)
- Microsoft Suite (Word, PPT, Outlook, Team) and willingness to learn new technology like a driving simulator
- Fluent in French and English, an asset
Key Competencies
- Meticulous, detail-oriented and highly organized with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet tight timelines
- Good writing skills to assist with grant writing, ethics applications, manuscripts, scientific posters, various supporting documents associated with the research projects
- Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative data analysis
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to adapt to a dynamic project environment, and work in a virtual environment such as teleconferences, e-meetings and video conferencing
- Critical thinking skills and strong ability to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment and independently
This position requires in-person contact with participants who may have a medical illness and may require special attention. The successful candidate must exhibit sympathy and be alert to participants and care partners’ needs.
