Group Benefits Specialist

We currently have an opening for a self-motivated, highly organized, and capable individual to work as a Group Benefits Consultant within our team.

Job Summary:

The Group Benefits Specialist is responsible for advising clients on employee benefits programs, such as group health, dental, life insurance, disability coverage, and retirement plans. They work with employers to design, implement, and manage benefit solutions that meet the needs of their employees while being cost-effective for the organization. The consultant is a liaison between clients, insurance carriers, and other service providers.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Client Consultation:

Meet with clients to understand their specific needs and objectives related to group benefits.
Evaluate existing benefits plans and recommend improvements or changes to enhance coverage and cost efficiency.
Educate clients on various insurance products, market trends, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

2. Plan Design and Management:

Design customized benefits packages, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, and disability plans.
Collaborate with insurance carriers to negotiate terms, rates, and renewals.
Ensure the benefits plans align with organizational goals, employee needs, and legal standards.

3. Analysis and Reporting:

Conduct cost-benefit analyses and financial modeling to help clients make informed decisions.
Provide clients with regular reports on plan performance, claims experience, and cost trends.
Develop and present recommendations based on industry trends and data analysis.

4. Client Relationship Management:

Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on all group benefits matters.
Maintain ongoing communication with clients to address questions, concerns, and changes in coverage.
Foster strong, long-term relationships to ensure client satisfaction and retention.

5. Compliance and Regulatory Guidance:

Keep clients informed about relevant provincial and federal regulations regarding employee benefits.
Assist with compliance issues such as privacy laws, the Employment Standards Act (ESA), and tax implications.

6. Business Development:

Identify new business opportunities and generate leads through networking, referrals, and industry connections.
Develop proposals, respond to RFPs, and present benefits solutions to prospective clients.
Collaborate with internal teams, including underwriters and customer service, to ensure seamless service delivery.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or a related field.
Professional certification in employee benefits or insurance (e.g., CEBS, CHS) is an asset.
3-5 years of experience in group benefits consulting or a related field.
In-depth knowledge of group insurance products, including health, dental, life, and disability benefits.
Strong understanding of relevant provincial and federal regulations (e.g., CRA rules, ESA).
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Proficiency with benefits administration software and data analysis tools.
Strong client relationship management skills.
