Job summary

The University of Ottawa Heart Institute Research Corporation is seeking a Research Assistant to support innovative clinical research focused on improving patient health outcomes. Working under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Research Manager, and Research Coordinator, the Research Assistant will play an important role in participant recruitment, data collection, participant follow-up, and study administration.

This position is ideal for an organized and detail-oriented individual with strong communication skills who is interested in contributing to high-quality clinical research within a collaborative healthcare environment.

Key responsibilities

Support day-to-day operations and responsibilities of the project in conjunction with the Research Coordinator to ensure completion of project deliverables and outputs.
Actively contribute to the participant recruitment strategy and activities including screening and consenting.
Regularly meet with study investigators and research staff (online and/or in-person) and maintain ongoing communication with the study team.
Accurately collect and enter participant data and conduct data quality assessment activities using tools including SPSS and REDCap.

Required qualifications

Bachelor of Science (BSc, or related discipline).
Experience working in clinical research, healthcare, or related environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong organization and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage study participants professionally and compassionately.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
Demonstrated understanding of research ethics, participant confidentiality, and good data collection practices.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred qualifications

Experience with REDCap or other clinical research databases.
Experience supporting participant recruitment and follow-up activities.
Knowledge of smoking cessation, cardiovascular health, addictions, or related research areas.
Bilingual (English/French).

Working conditions

This position is hybrid, with a combination of on-site and remote work.
Flexibility to work occasional evenings and/or weekends to accommodate participant availability and study requirements.
