Hours of work : Work a combination of day shifts (07:00-19:00) and night shifts (19:00-07:00), the rotation is based on 7 days in a 14-day period (2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 3 off, etc.)

4 positions Determinate, full-time, 40 hours per week (start date: July 4, 2026 / End date: March 31, 2027)

**Location: On-site, National Gallery of Canada, 380, Sussex Drive, Ottawa, ON

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the National Gallery of Canada’s Duty Officer, you will be responsible for monitoring and operating centralized Fire, HVAC, CCTV , and Security systems in a dedicated Security Operations Centre (SOC). You will initiate and coordinate appropriate emergency response, and control all security communications, including multiple radio channels, Email, MS Teams, intercoms, and telephones.

While not on duty in the SOC, you will conduct patrols of on and off-site storage locations, initiate investigations, inspections, write incident reports, and provide emergency response while not posted in the SOC. You will also be involved with security functions during various Special Events and VIP functions.

The National Gallery uses a hybrid security force with a core in-house Protection Services team and a separate contract guard force. We are a client-facing institution, and you will be actively interacting with the public to resolve and de-escalate potential issues.

Requirements

Education

Post-secondary diploma/degree in a security related field; or an acceptable combination of education, experience, and training.

Licences/Certifications

Current Standard First Aid with CPR/AED Level C.

Work experience

At least 12 months of experience as a security professional or in a relevant field (law enforcement, military, 911, emergency operations centre)
Experience working in a Security Operations Centre or in an investigative role would be an asset.

Skills/abilities

Knowledge of public safety, security procedures, and emergency protocols.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both official languages (BBB level).

Condition of Employment

Must meet the bilingual requirement to be invited to the interview process.
Must have a valid drivers’ license, and current Standard First Aid with CPR/AED Level C.
