Eating Disorder Therapist at The Balanced Practice
Ottawa, Ontario
Job Type: Independent Contractor (15-20 clients/week)
Pay: Competitive hourly rate (commensurate with experience)

The Eating Disorder Therapist provides one-on-one therapy to clients navigating eating disorders and related concerns, while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

This role requires strong clinical judgment, the ability to hold complexity, and a commitment to ongoing learning and reflection.

Role & Success Indicators 1. Clinical Care & Therapeutic Work

The therapist provides thoughtful, attuned, and evidence-informed care to clients navigating eating disorders and related mental health concerns.

They are able to:

Build strong therapeutic relationships grounded in safety, trust, and collaboration
Hold complexity (e.g., co-occurring concerns, ambivalence, relational dynamics)
Apply a weight-inclusive, trauma-informed lens in all aspects of care
Support clients in moving toward meaningful, sustainable recovery

Success looks like:

Clients feel seen, respected, and supported in their care
Clinical work reflects depth, nuance, and alignment with ED-informed practice
Clear treatment direction and clinical reasoning are demonstrated

2. Collaboration & Team Integration

The therapist is an active and engaged member of the clinical team, contributing to a collaborative care environment.

They:

Participate in team meetings and clinical rounds
Engage in case consultation and interdisciplinary collaboration
Communicate clearly and professionally with team members

What It’s Like to Work Here

Requirements

Ability to practice the controlled act of psychotherapy and be in good standing with a regulatory college (RP, RSW, OT, RPQ, etc.)
Experience working with eating disorders or disordered eating
Strong alignment with an anti-diet, weight-inclusive approach
Alignment with The Balanced Practice’s mission and values
Availability for at least one evening per week

BONUS

Fluency in French (strong asset)
Ability to work with kiddos (under the age of 13 y.o.) and families
