Equator Coffee Roasters is an Ontario-based, mission-driven coffee roasting company from the friendly town of Almonte, Ontario. We exist to connect the coffee drinker to the coffee farmer, from one family to another. JOB SUMMARY
The primary responsibility of Café Team Members is to prepare and deliver high quality products and exemplary customer service. This will ensure an incredible customer experience from the entry greeting as to all aspects of the physical space including presentation and cleanliness. It is important to have a high level of company and product knowledge in order to answer customer questions. They are responsible for acting in accordance with Equator Values and The Equator Way of operating on the café floor at all times.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The Café Team Member’s responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Customer Service

Acts with integrity and honesty promoting the culture, values and standards of Equator

Attains a high level of company and product knowledge in order to answer customer inquiries

Maintains a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events to keep store operating to standard

Promotes menu items with each order.

Knows the food menu, drink menu, and seasonal menu.

Knows the Equator Coffee Story, Impact, Our Values, and Coffees Sold (Bags of coffee names, origins and how to recommend to a customer).

Delivers legendary customer service to all customers by acting with a customer comes first attitude and connecting personally with the customer

Serves customers on the floor by delivering food and beverage, busing tables and keeping all service areas clean and stocked

And any other tasks requested by Equator Cafe Manager or Management Team
POS (Point of Sale) and Cash Management

Greets customer; requests and receives order including method of delivery; delivers basic items not requiring preparation (brewed coffee, baked goods, etc.)

Receives and processes payment and ensuring completion and accuracy
-
Thanks customer being sure to leave a good impression
-
Follow rush procedures by providing additional support on cash with the line is longer than 3-4 customers

Carefully follows appropriate closing and cash management procedures at end of day

Speed of Service
Product Preparation and Delivery
-
Prepares all ready-made beverages (brewed coffee, iced tea, loose tea bags, etc.) and always keeps service area properly stocked

Follows carefully all order taking procedures and communicates efficiently with the barista on duty
-
For all “for here” orders, provides a number to customer and delivers product when ready
-
For all “take away” orders, asks for the customers name so that we can call them appropriately once their order is ready

Follows instructions of kitchen staff for proper food presentation and delivery

Delivering drinks

And any other tasks requested by Equator Cafe Manager or Management Team
Maintains Standards

Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality
-
Ensures quality control through regular tasting, testing and adjusting during shifts to produce products within specifications. Kindly rejects product outside of specifications
-
Provides quality beverages, whole bean, and food products consistently for all customers by adhering to recipe and presentation standards
-
Follows the company dress code as outlined in the Employee Handbook
-
Follows health, safety and sanitation guidelines according to government standards
Cleaning, Maintenance and Keeping Busy!
-
All roles including cashier/servers are responsible for cleaning dishes, clearing and cleaning tables/sitting areas, cleaning and mopping floors, cleaning counters, cleaning bathrooms, cleaning equipment, and any other duties assigned.

Maintains appropriate quantities of beverages available by brewing ahead as needed
-
Always ensures a clean and safe work area

Works with kitchen staff to keep dishes clean and prevent an overflow in the dish sink
-
Follows all cleaning and maintenance procedures throughout the day and closing procedures for deep cleaning and preparing the space for the next day’s opener.

At times of low customer volume, attends to additional cleaning, restocking and maintenance procedures according to the list of “extra Jobs” provided by the Cafe Site Manager

And any other tasks requested by Equator Cafe Manager or Management Team
Communication and Administration

Reads Push Operations chat channel on each shift, responds and acts on all information where needed

Follow all Equator café staff communications procedures and respond professionally and promptly to all communications

Always communicates well with other Team Members avoiding gossip and discouraging words

Reports all concerns in a timely manner to Shift Supervisors and Managers as required

Follows Equator operational policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Equator Coffee Roasters prides itself on providing a work atmosphere that is pleasant, productive and supportive.
TIME EXPECTATIONS AND COMPENSATION
-
Shift times and length vary with staff member availability; plan to work for five to eight-hour shifts.

Equator team members will start at minimum wage unless joining the team with significant previous training or experience. Wage will increase with time worked and as additional roles or major responsibilities are added.

All new employees are subject to an initial 3-month probationary period in order to determine best fit for the job.
