Position purpose :
Delivers professional medical services in a clinical care setting by evaluating students' needs and assure that required nursing care is delivered as guided by the College of Nurses of Ontario and according to the policies and procedures of the University.
T riages operational tasks and offers direct nursing care to students, delivers health education information, and provides consultative services regarding issues relevant to students
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
Completes preliminary student assessment as required including but not limited to reason of visit, height, weight, vitals, and manage students flow in examination rooms.
Assesses students’ needs and documents (i.e., charting) all medical information provided and informs physicians of specific situations.
Ensures that required nursing care is delivered to meet the specific needs of the student.
Monitors, assesses, addresses, documents and reports symptoms and changes in students' conditions.
Administers medications and treatments as prescribed by a physician and according to established policies and protocols within their scope of practice.
Provides basic laboratory and phlebotomy procedures and treatment services (e.g., tests, glucometer readings, dressings, injections, immunizations, allergy treatments, etc.).
Ensures infection control and occupational health and safety standards are followed.
Ensures that exam areas are disinfected and stocked with medical, and laboratory supplies as needed.
Provides education to students and their families on health-related issues in collaboration with other health care providers.
Collaborates with members of an interdisciplinary health team to plan, implement, coordinate and evaluate student care in consultation with students.
Assists in surgical and other medical procedures within their scope of practice.
Maintains confidentiality and its application to students’ electronic health records.
Other duties as assigned within RPN scope of practice.
What you will bring:
Successful completion of Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) Diploma (Registered Nurse (RN) would be an asset).
Valid certificate of registration/licensing in the College of Nurses of Ontario.
At least three (3) years’ experiences in a primary health care environment.
Experience in a health clinic setting considered an asset.
Clinical experience in a post-secondary setting considered an asset.
Bilingualism : French and English (spoken and written), to be considered for this position, candidates must be rated at the Low Advanced proficiency level or higher for both oral comprehension and reading comprehension in their second official language. The rating is determined by a proficiency test designed by the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute.
Valid certification for CPR and AED
Previous experience with EMRs (i.e. Telus PS suite, OSCAR, Purkinje)
Sound knowledge of nursing processes and professional responsibilities
