The Life Enrichment Coordinator (LEC) reports directly to the Administrator and is responsible for coordinating and scheduling activities to provide life enrichment programming for residents. The LEC also serves as a coach and mentor to the life enrichment department's employees, leading by example to inspire and motivate them to recognize their impact as Everyday Heroes on the lives of residents and colleagues.

The Responsibilities

Provide supportive, effective, optimistic leadership to all life enrichment staff.
Develop, implement and communicate a schedule of recreation, leisure and social activities, including indoor and outdoor events, which reflect the interests of all residents of the home.
Ensure residents and their families are given the opportunity to provide input into the development and scheduling of recreation and social activities.
Ensure activities and events are scheduled and offered to residents during day time, evening and weekend hours.
Distribute information about community events that may be of interest to the residents is communicated in the home.
Ensure residents are provided support and assistance for participation in activities they are not able to do so independently.
Safeguard the maintenance of a safe environment for residents, staff and visitors. Establish and enforce the expectation that hazardous conditions and actions are promptly reported and corrected. Apply the principles and standards of Safety First, using consistency in the application of policies and procedures which have been developed to provide a safe work environment for all staff.
Work collaboratively with other disciplines to coordinate an efficient multidisciplinary system of admission, transfer and discharge which effectively meets the needs of residents, family members, staff and the community. Participate in the admission interview to introduce the resident to the home and assess his/her needs and preferences including his/her physical, psychological, social, emotional and spiritual needs and interests.
Assist residents to coordinate the activities of the Resident Council and Family Council and provide
Participate in and assist with the physical therapy program in the home as required.
Provide input into service and product evaluations to ensure that they meet the required standards of safety and quality and effectively meet the needs of the residents.
Ensure that documentation in the clinical record is accurate, current and complete. Ensure that MDS assessments and RAPs are an accurate reflection of the residents and the care that they are provided in the home.

Education

A post-secondary degree or diploma in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or other related field
At least one year of experience in a healthcare setting.
