Overview:
As a Community Support Worker (CSW), you will play a vital role in fostering connections and providing inclusive, person-centered support within our community. You will serve as a friend, mentor, and advocate for seniors and individuals of all ages living with disabilities who are receiving in-home and community-based supports.
This role requires empathy, patience, adaptability, and a genuine desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others while promoting dignity, independence, and inclusion.
The CSW position in Pincher Creek, Alberta, is part-time temporary with potential to expand into a permanent position. Hours per week may range between 5-15 for this position at start.
CSWs provide community clients with the following services:
- Post-surgery supervision & support
- Assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs – non-medical)
- Medication reminders and support
- Meal preparation
- Basic pet care
- Light housekeeping
- Recreation and leisure activities tailored to individual abilities and interests
- Medical appointment accompaniment
- Emotional support & genuine companionship
- Support with community participation (e.g., attending events, grocery shopping, social outings)
- Support for individuals with physical, developmental, cognitive, or mental health disabilities, including mobility assistance, communication support, and behavioral support as needed
Responsibilities:
- Building Relationships: Develop meaningful, respectful relationships with community members, including seniors, individuals with disabilities, caregivers, and other stakeholders.
- Recreation/Social Engagement: Organize and participate in inclusive social activities, outings, and gatherings that promote engagement, accessibility, and community integration based on individual interests and abilities, in consultation with a Recreation Therapist and supervisor.
- Emotional Support: Provide a listening ear, emotional support, and companionship to individuals experiencing loneliness, isolation, disability-related challenges, or emotional distress.
- Assistance with Activities: Support individuals with daily living activities such as grocery shopping, errands, appointments, and hobbies, adapting support to varying physical, cognitive, and developmental needs.
- Promoting Independence: Encourage and empower individuals to maintain independence and autonomy while providing appropriate levels of support.
- Person-Centered & Inclusive Care: Deliver support that respects diverse abilities, cultural backgrounds, communication styles, and personal preferences.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of interactions, activities, and any significant developments related to client well-being; report regularly to the Recreation Therapist or supervisor.
- Mobility & Scheduling: Travel to client homes and support multiple clients within scheduled working hours.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with families, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and community organizations to ensure holistic and coordinated support.
- Referral Support: Communicate with your supervisor when a client may benefit from additional or specialized supports.

- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to adapt communication styles to meet diverse needs (e.g., cognitive or communication barriers)
- Reliability and dependability
- Flexibility to adapt to changing client needs and environments
- Respect for confidentiality and privacy
- Knowledge of community resources and disability supports is an asset
- Patience and compassion when supporting individuals facing physical, cognitive, or emotional challenges
- Leadership skills in facilitating inclusive activities
- Understanding of aging, disability, and community-based supports is an asset
- Valid Driver's License and access to reliable transportation
- A satisfactory Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Check issued within the past 90 days
Education and Experience:
- Valid driver’s license & safe and reliable vehicle required
- Government of Alberta approved Health Care Aide Certificate is an asset but not required
- Additional education or training in social work, disability studies, developmental services, dementia care, recreation therapy, or a related field is an asset
- Experience supporting individuals with disabilities and/or seniors in caregiving, community support, or social services is strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English (spoken and written)
Working Conditions:
- Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, based on client needs
- Work settings may include private homes, community spaces, and outdoor environments
- Physical requirements may include standing, bending, squatting, kneeling, and lifting up to 25 pounds
- May involve supporting individuals with mobility, sensory, or behavioral needs

- $22.00–$27.00/hour, based on experience
