Title: Shop Foreman (Sand Hauling Fleet)

Location: Grande Prairie

Reports To: General Manager

Type: Full-Time

Schedule: Mon - Fri (Weekends as required)

Pay: CA$55.00-CA$60.00 per hour

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled Shop Foreman to support a sand hauling operation as a working supervisor. This role includes hands-on preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and compliance work on highway tractors and Super B sand trailers, while also helping organize daily shop priorities, support mechanics, and keep equipment safe, reliable, and CVIP-ready with minimal downtime.

Key ResponsibilitiesPreventive Maintenance (PM)

· Complete scheduled PM services on tractors and trailers, including fluids, filters, greasing, and inspections.

· Identify wear items early, including brakes, tires, hubs, suspension, steering, and air systems, and recommend repairs.

Diagnostics & Repairs - Tractors

· Diagnose and repair engine, electrical, starting/charging, cooling, driveline/vibration, steering/suspension, brake, and air system issues.

· Perform post-repair checks and ensure repairs meet safety and quality standards.

Trailer & Sand Equipment Repairs

· Inspect and repair trailer brake systems, air leaks/lines, suspension, landing gear, lights/wiring, tires/wheels, and structural items.

· Address sand-haul specific issues, including hoses, couplers, valves, connections, and hardware, to ensure safe loaded operation.

CVIP / Compliance

· Perform CVIP inspections, if certified, and/or prepare equipment for CVIP by completing deficiency repairs.

· Ensure all work meets Alberta compliance requirements and internal safety expectations.

· Maintain accurate documentation, including work orders, inspection notes, and parts used.

Shop Foreman Responsibilities

· Act as the working lead in the shop while continuing to perform hands-on mechanic duties.

· Set daily repair priorities based on safety, dispatch needs, downtime, parts availability, and upcoming CVIP or inspection requirements.

· Communicate equipment status, repair timelines, and downtime concerns with management and dispatch.

· Manage shop inventory, parts ordering, and parts availability to reduce repair delays and control costs.

· Support mechanics, parts planning, documentation, and safe shop practices to keep repairs moving efficiently.

Qualifications & Requirements

· Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician (HET).

· Strong experience with highway tractors and air brake systems.

· Solid trailer repair capability, including brakes, air, electrical, and suspension.

· Ability to lead in a busy shop environment while still completing hands-on repairs.

· Valid driver's license required; Class 1 is an asset.

· CVIP certification is a strong asset, or willingness to obtain.

· Ability to prioritize urgent repairs, make practical decisions, and meet deadlines in a fleet environment.

· Physically capable of performing shop work, including lifting, kneeling, climbing, and outdoor conditions as needed.

Preferred

· Sand hauling, gravel, or oilfield hauling experience.

· Super B trailer experience.

· Welding/fabrication capability.

· Previous lead hand, foreman, or shop supervisory experience.

Compensation & Benefits

Wage: $55 - $60/hr
