Full job description

If you’re an experienced Speech-Language Pathologist looking for a meaningful career move - and a change in lifestyle - Island Health welcomes you. This is a regular full-time position with Public Health at the Port Alberni Health Centre in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island, BC. In this community-based role, you will provide speech-language pathology services to children under the age of kindergarten eligibility, working closely with clients, families, caregivers, colleagues and community partners.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with weekends and statutory holidays off. Travel between sites may be required.

What You’ll Do

As a Speech-Language Pathologist with Public Health, you will identify, assess, diagnose and treat communication delays and disorders, as well as feeding and swallowing difficulties. Working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will:

prioritize referrals and manage an assigned caseload;
assess children’s communication, feeding and swallowing needs;
develop and implement individual and group treatment programs;
provide consultation and education to families, caregivers, staff and the community;
promote culturally safe, child- and family-centred care; and
collaborate with Acute Care and community-based services to support continuity of care.

What You Will Need to Apply

Graduation from a recognized university program in Speech-Language Pathology.
Current licensure in a practising category with the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia (CHCPBC) as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
A valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence.
