Full job description

Namima Case Worker Position Summary:

Namima refers to a traditional kinship and clan system - members of a unit being of 'one kind'. Using a culturally based and wholistic approach, the Namima case worker is committed to ensuring the safety of children, strengthening family relations, and enhancing the well-being of members.

Program staff derive solutions from the client, Matriarchs and Hereditary Chiefs, of their Namima. This client centered focus recognizes advocacy in all aspects of a person's life.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Intake

· Receive referrals from the Ministry of Child and Family Services (MCFD); Gwa'sala - 'Nakwaxda'xw Health and Family Services staff, as well as self-referrals from community members.

· Complete the relevant intake information and set up a Namima meeting with all parties to assess the situation and course of action(s). Parties include service providers, Chiefs, Elders, Ninogaad, Ninoxsla, Matriarchs, MCFD, and any relevant stakeholders to discuss planning for children and families.

Assessment

· Coordinate and facilitate meetings with families, service providers, Chiefs, Elders, Ninogaad, Ninoxsla, Matriarchs, MCFD and any relevant stakeholders to develop care plans, emergency plans, and/or safety plans, for children and to support family healing.

· Ensure cultural protocols are followed in meetings and all aspects of planning.

Plan Implementation

· Provide referrals to appropriate support services.

· Guide families to build structure, routine and engage in cultural ceremony as needed.

· Conduct follow-up meetings with clients.

· Complete accurate and confidential records of all activities.

· Adhere to all approved standards, policies and procedures.

· Complete accurate and timely reports on all activities.

· Complete record management activities as directed.

· Ensure services are delivered in a culturally appropriate and safe manner.

Advocacy

· Act as an advocate in court.

· Provide advocacy services as outlined in care, emergency, or safety plans for children and families.

Other

· Periodic on-call with advocacy phone.

To fulfill other related duties as directed by the Child and Family Services Manager and implemented policies.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in social work, Indigenous Social Work, or a related human services field plus experience.A combination of relevant education, experience, and demonstrated Indigenous knowledge may be considered.
Minimum 2 years of relevant case management, child and family services, or community-based experience.
Strong knowledge of Indigenous culture, family and community wellness, and culturally grounded, trauma-informed practice.
Knowledge of Indigenous child welfare, MCFD processes, relevant legislation, advocacy, and service coordination.
Strong communication, documentation, organizational, and relationship-building skills.

Pay: $45.21 per hour
