Full job description

Three Rivers/Malpeque – 2 positions

Temporary Contract (8 weeks)

Estimated Start Date: July 6, 2023

35 hours per week, $19.00 per hour

(Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 3:30 pm)

Meals on Wheels PEI is the collaborative leader for the delivery of nutritious and affordable meals to persons in need. We support Meals on Wheels Chapters across Prince Edward Island and empower local community programs to improve the health and quality of life of the seniors they serve so that no one is left hungry or isolated.

Our seasonal program, ‘Food for All’ is a community based sustainable food program that oversees community garden beds. The produce from these beds is delivered to local Meals on Wheels members and community fridges. The program also hosts community workshops and community harvest meals.

The Food for All Garden Assistant will offer support for all programming related to Food for All.
They will provide logistical support and direct client service to seniors and other community members through the Meals on Wheels program. They will assist in program design, scheduling, communications and outreach in the community.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Assist the Food for All Coordinator in maintaining local garden spaces (planting, weeding, dividing and distributing produce) in Cardigan, Montague and Stratford.
Assist with local food initiatives including the community fridge, workshops, and community meals
Assist with creation of social media content for the Food for All program
Assist with Rural Routes frozen meal delivery program (taking orders, organizing and packing meals)

Skills/Qualifications

This job is funded through Canada Summer Jobs 2025, and to be eligible applicants must:
Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with Prince Edward Island legislation and regulations
Satisfactory police records check for the vulnerable sector
Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to work independently
Experience with older adults, volunteers and/or persons with diverse abilities an asset
Ability to communicate in language other than English an asset
Valid Driver’s License and daily access to a safe, licensed and reliable vehicle for business-related travel
