We are seeking a Chief Financial Officer to join our senior leadership team and lead the continued development of a strong, modern, and sustainable internal Finance function.
This is not a maintenance role.
There is a lot happening at Tl’azt’en, and the successful candidate will have a genuine opportunity to build systems, strengthen internal capacity, develop people, improve financial reporting and planning, and have a meaningful influence on the Nation’s long-term direction.

The Role
The CFO will work closely with the Executive Director, General Manager, Finance Manager, Chief and Council, department managers, auditors, funders, and external professional advisors.
The CFO will provide leadership and oversight in areas including:
- annual budgeting and multi-year financial planning
- forecasting, cash-flow planning, and financial analysis
- monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
- strategic financial advice to senior management and Chief and Council
- audit preparation and coordination
- internal controls and financial policy development
- Financial Administration Law implementation and compliance
- funding agreements and government reporting requirements
- capital project financial planning and monitoring
- financial risk management and governance
- banking, investments, and treasury oversight
- development and mentorship of the Finance team
- strengthening internal financial systems and processes
- oversight and coordination of auditors, accountants, consultants, and other professional advisors
A major priority of this role will be continuing to build senior financial expertise within Tl’azt’en Nation.
We want to strengthen our internal capacity, retain institutional knowledge, develop our Finance team, and ensure external professional firms are used strategically for specialized expertise rather than as a replacement for permanent internal leadership.
Who We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- CPA designation in good standing
- significant progressive financial leadership experience
- strong experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, internal controls, and audit
- experience leading, mentoring, or developing Finance teams
- experience advising senior leadership, boards, councils, or governance bodies
- strong knowledge of financial policy, compliance, and risk management
- experience with government funding agreements and reporting requirements
- strong communication, judgment, and relationship-management skills
Experience working with First Nations, Indigenous governments, public-sector organizations, or not-for-profit organizations is a strong asset.
We also welcome applications from experienced Finance Directors, Directors of Finance, Controllers, or other senior financial leaders who are ready to move into a CFO-level role.
Location & Hybrid Work
Tl’azt’en Nation maintains a satellite office in Prince George, allowing us to offer flexibility in how this role is structured.
The successful candidate may work through a combination of the Prince George office, the Tl’azt’en Nation Administration Office in Tache, and approved remote work.
Regular presence in Tache will still be required so the CFO can work directly with Finance staff, senior leadership, Chief and Council, managers, and community.
The exact hybrid schedule can be developed with the successful candidate based on operational requirements and the needs of the Nation.
Approved work-related mileage between Prince George and Tache will be reimbursed in accordance with Tl’azt’en Nation policy.
Pay: $155,000.00-$175,000.00 per year
