Full job description

While this position is Casual in nature, all of our Casuals are currently receiving up to full-time hours each pay period.

The Sunset Community operates out of Cumberland County, and includes an Adult Residential Center located on the Northumberland Strait in the picturesque village of Pugwash, Nova Scotia. Additionally, we also have two Social Enterprises, and we have an Independent Living Program that supports Participants to reside in our group home or independently within the communities found in Cumberland County.

Salary & Benefits:

The wage for this position is $19.72/hr.. Additionally, this position has shift premiums of $4.00/hr. for weekend shifts.

Benefits are available to those who enter permanent positions (or temporary positions longer than one year, but excludes LTD). This includes Health, Dental, Group & Dependent Life, and Long Term Disability (which are compulsory). Those with permanent positions can enroll in optional Life Insurance, Critical Illness, and AD&D (which are optional).

We offer one of the best Pension Plans in all of Nova Scotia (NSHEPP: 7.82% Employee, 9.22% Employer, for a total of 17.04%). Employees are eligible to enroll after two years of service as a casual, or after 3 months of service in a position. Those with past history with NSHEPP can transfer to us and continue participation in the plan.

Responsibilities:

Support Services Casuals work in both our Housekeeping and Dietary departments, and their responsibilities differ depending on which department they work in:

Housekeeping:

Cleaning Washrooms, Tub Rooms, Day Rooms, Hallways and common areas on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
Using chemical to clean surfaces
Doing Laundry for residents in building
Buffing/Waxing floors
Supporting client workers in housekeeping duties

Dietary:

Operating dishwasher to wash dishes from meals and sanitizing all dishes and work areas
Hand washing large equipment (pots, pans, Knives, etc.)
Food Prep (peel, cut, prepare vegetables for cook) including food prep for people with allergies or intolerances, as well as desserts for each meal.
Clean kitchen equipment and areas, including removing kitchen garbage and compost.
Receive and put away orders

Physical Demands:

Physical demands include: bending, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, climbing stairs, carrying loads up to 40 pounds and meeting the walking and standing needs that are required in this position.

Working Environment:

Well-lighted, warm indoor environment. However, it may be necessary to work outside even in inclement weather.

All of the necessary training for this position is paid for and provided by the Sunset Community. All Employees are paid to attend the necessary training for their role. Past experience preferred but is not necessary.
