Full job description

As a Steel Trades Trainer, you will be responsible for delivering the training programs developed by the Steel Practice Lead for employees in the Welding & Fabrication and Mechanical Assembly departments, supporting them in the development of their technical and practical skills. More specifically, you will:

Deliver theoretical and practical training in welding and fabrication within the context of a shipyard undergoing significant transformation and expansion.
Assess employees’ competency development through theoretical and/or practical evaluations.
Participate in the updating and continuous improvement of theoretical and practical training content.
Collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure continuity and effective transfer of skills in the workplace.
Stay current with technical and instructional best practices within your area of expertise.
Assess and certify employees’ competencies in accordance with applicable standards.
Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Coordinate the logistics of the various stages of the training process.
Perform administrative tasks related to training activities, such as managing attendance records, updating employee training files, preparing and issuing competency cards, ordering training materials and equipment, entering post-training data into the system, and other related duties.

- College diploma in Metallurgy or Welding and Fabrication.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience as a trainer/instructor.
- Experience with SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, Air Carbon Arc Gouging (Arc Air), PAC, and OAC welding processes (an asset).
- Experience reading blueprints and welding symbols, knowledge of metallurgy principles, welding defects, visual inspection techniques, and non-destructive testing (NDT).
- Skills and experience in piping/plumbing systems (an asset).
