Position Responsibilities

The School of Trades and Technology is looking for a Collegiate Instructor –

Sessional Faculty Member to teach and develop curriculum in Collegiate program. The successful candidate will be expected to be an active member of the faculty and polytechnic community, participating fully in activities undertaken by the program.

Job Duties will include:

Develop, maintain and instruct the theory and shop components of various trades incorporated into the Collegiate program.
Ongoing planning and curriculum review
Participate in school, program, and other polytechnic service committees
Program promotion and student recruitment

Red Deer Polytechnic’s School of Trades and Technology is a multidisciplinary school committed to innovation, applied learning, and student success across a broad spectrum of programs. We are Alberta’s third-largest provider of Skilled Trades Apprenticeship training, offering 17 trades, two Engineering Technology Diplomas. RDP is a major sponsor of Skills Canada Alberta and has seen many of our students excel in Skills competitions provincially, nationally, and at World Skills. Alongside this, our Science and Computing programs are rapidly growing, offering certificates, diplomas, university transfer options, and collaborative degrees that prepare students for careers in research, industry, health, and technology.

Required Qualifications

Alberta Journeyperson Certificate in a recognized trade in Alberta
Inter-provincial Red Seal Certificate
Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint Effective time management and organizational skills
Aptitude for mentoring and coaching others
Comfortable with public speaking, and able to convey course subjects to diverse students and learning styles

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with:

Experience teaching through both in-person and online formats
Journeyperson certification in one or more additional related trades
Management or leadership experience.

Red Deer Polytechnic offers a comprehensive benefits package including Alberta Blue Cross extended health and dental plans, and health spending account. There is a tuition waiver for RDP credit courses for you as well as your immediate family members, as well as opportunities for professional development funding. The Local Authorities Pension Plan is also offered as an option to those who have served a waiting period. There is paid time off due to Institution closures between Christmas and New Year general holidays. This position also offers an additional 8% of the regular salary in lieu of vacation.
