eHealth Saskatchewan is at the heart of how health care works across the province – powering the digital systems that connect care teams, patients and information. With over 800 employees in 20 communities, we provide IT support and services in 433 locations, ensuring the right information and tools are in the right hands at the right time so care teams can focus on what matters most: patient care. We also manage Vital Statistics, health card services, and MySaskHealthRecord, one of Canada’s leading tools for giving people secure online access to their health information.
At eHealth, how we work matters just as much as what we deliver. Our culture isn’t just something we talk about, it shapes how we make decisions, support each other and deliver results:
1. Partner for results: We prioritize teamwork and ensure decisions involve those affected
2. Serve with purpose: We act with empathy, respect and care in every interaction to deliver better outcomes
3. Own our actions: We own our success and failures, act with honesty, and uphold trust
4. Innovate with intent: We challenge the status quo and turn ideas into action
Join us in strengthening Saskatchewan’s health system through meaningful, people-centered digital innovation.
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will design and build the data infrastructure that powers analytics, reporting, and research across Saskatchewan’s health system. You’ll develop scalable ETL solutions and modern data models that enable trusted, high-quality data to flow securely from a wide variety of sources into the Provincial Data Platform. Your work will directly support initiatives that improve health system decision-making and enable impactful research in secure environments. This role is ideal for a technical leader who enjoys solving complex data challenges and mentoring others to deliver reliable, well-governed data products.
Reporting to the Manager, Data Management, you will:
Collaborate with eHealth teams and health system partners to gather requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions.
Architect and develop relational and dimensional data models (e.g., star/snowflake schemas, facts, cubes, SCD) aligned to data management frameworks and platform standards.
Design and build robust data pipelines and ETL/ELT solutions using SQL, SSIS, Informatica, APIs, and other integration technologies.
Design and implement data ingestion and transformation pipelines using Fabric Data Factory, notebooks, and Spark.
Implement medallion architecture patterns (Bronze, Silver, Gold) using Fabric Lakehouse and OneLake.
Apply hands-on Spark-based data processing and notebook-driven development practices to support scalable analytics solutions.
Optimize and automate data processes to improve scalability, performance, reliability, and timeliness of data delivery.
Analyze and validate datasets to ensure alignment with data architecture guidelines and compliance with data sharing agreements and legislative restrictions.
Maintain and support the ETL environment, including monitoring, troubleshooting, debugging, and backup/recovery operations.
Mentor and support Information Analysts and junior Data Management resources through coaching, knowledge sharing, and technical guidance.
A Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related area of study along with a certification such as Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate, Azure Data Engineer Associate, Power BI Data Analyst, or similar cloud/data platform certifications.
5 years in a Data Engineer (or similar) role in an integrated support environment, delivering complex data solutions.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
2–3 years of hands-on experience with Python, Microsoft Fabric, PySpark, Lakehouse architecture, and data/deployment pipelines.
Technical expertise with Oracle and/or SQL Server databases, including strong SQL skills and performance tuning concepts.
Strong ETL experience, including tool-based development (e.g., Informatica—PowerCenter/Integration Services/Workflow/IDMC/TDM and/or SSIS) and end-to-end lifecycle delivery.
Programming/scripting capability (e.g., PL/SQL, Python, R, shell scripting) to support automation, transformation, and operational support.
Experience with Saskatchewan health data and/or knowledge of cloud data platforms would be considered an asset.
