Digital Marketing Account Manager
Location: Canada – Fully Remote
Employment Type: Full-Time
Working Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:30 PM EST
Department: Client Success / Account Management
About the Role
We are looking for a Digital Marketing Account Manager to join our fully remote team in Canada.
This role is responsible for managing client relationships, overseeing marketing performance, coordinating with internal teams, and ensuring clients receive a high level of communication, strategy, and support.
We are ideally looking for someone with previous digital marketing agency experience who understands what it takes to manage multiple client accounts across SEO, Google Ads, Meta Ads, websites, and lead generation.
However, agency experience is not mandatory.
If you come from a strong sales, marketing, client success, or account management background and believe you have the digital marketing knowledge and client-management skills outlined below, we encourage you to apply.
This is not a hands-on campaign management position. You will have specialists managing SEO and paid advertising. Your responsibility is to understand the strategy and performance well enough to oversee quality, communicate confidently with clients, collect feedback, manage relationships, and identify opportunities for growth.
Client Management & Retention
You will serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients and be responsible for maintaining strong, long-term relationships.
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct regular client check-ins by phone and email
- Lead monthly client performance and strategy meetings
- Build strong relationships with business owners and decision-makers
- Understand each client's business, objectives, challenges, and expectations
- Proactively communicate campaign progress
- Follow up on client requests and outstanding requirements
- Identify potential retention concerns early
- Manage difficult conversations professionally and positively
- Coordinate solutions when clients have concerns about performance
- Maintain clear notes, action items, and follow-ups across accounts
- Ensure clients understand what is being worked on and why
Digital Marketing Knowledge
You do not need to personally manage campaigns, but you must understand digital marketing well enough to have meaningful conversations with both clients and our internal specialists.
SEO
You should understand concepts including:
- How SEO works and realistic timelines
- Keyword research and search intent
- Keyword rankings
- Organic traffic
- Service and location page strategies
- Blog and content strategies
- Local SEO
- Google Business Profile
- Backlinks, directories, and citations
- Indexing and sitemap fundamentals
- Google Search Console
- On-page SEO
You should be capable of explaining SEO to a client in straightforward language without requiring an SEO specialist to join every conversation.
Google Ads & Meta Ads
You should have a good understanding of:
- Google Search Ads
- Search intent and keywords
- Search terms and negative keywords
- Location targeting
- Campaign budgets
- CPC, CPL and conversion rates
- Lead generation
- Meta advertising
- Audience targeting
- Creative testing
- Campaign objectives
- Advertising funnels
- Tracking and attribution
You will oversee and QA campaign performance, not personally manage campaigns.
You should be able to review performance, recognize when something does not look right, ask the appropriate questions, and escalate concerns to the specialist responsible for the campaign.
Lead Quality & Marketing Feedback
An important part of this position is understanding what happens after a lead is generated.
You will regularly speak with clients to understand:
- Are the leads relevant?
- Are they qualified?
- Are leads answering or responding?
- Are consultations or appointments being booked?
- Are leads becoming customers or clients?
- Are certain campaigns producing stronger opportunities?
- Are there issues with the client's internal follow-up process?
You will communicate this information back to our SEO and advertising teams so marketing decisions can be based on real lead quality and business outcomes, not just lead volume.
Performance Oversight & Quality Assurance
Before client meetings and throughout the month, you will review account performance and ensure the work being delivered aligns with the client's objectives.
This includes:
- Reviewing SEO and advertising reports
- Monitoring leads and conversions
- Reviewing CPL and other relevant advertising metrics
- Reviewing traffic and organic visibility
- Monitoring keyword rankings
- Identifying significant increases or decreases in performance
- Ensuring agreed-upon strategies are being implemented
- Identifying potential gaps or opportunities
- Asking internal teams for clarification when results require investigation
- Ensuring client concerns are properly addressed
You are expected to understand the numbers, not simply read a report back to the client.
Websites, Landing Pages & Creative
You should understand the fundamentals of a conversion-focused website or landing page, including:
- Clear calls to action
- Strong above-the-fold messaging
- Forms and conversion points
- Phone-call conversions
- Mobile usability
- Trust signals
- Page structure
- Matching landing-page messaging with search or advertising intent
- Basic creative and advertising messaging
- Understanding why certain ads or creatives may perform better than others
You should be able to review a landing page or creative and identify obvious areas that could affect campaign performance.
Technical Access & Account Setup
Account Managers will also help coordinate the access our teams require to properly manage client marketing.
You should be comfortable working with or guiding clients through:
- Domain registrars
- DNS records and DNS management
- Website and WordPress access
- Website hosting
- Google Analytics 4
- Google Search Console
- Google Tag Manager
- Google Ads
- Google Business Profile
- Meta Business Manager
- Meta Ads Manager
- Facebook and Instagram business assets
You are not expected to be a developer.
However, you should understand what these platforms are, why access may be required, and be comfortable helping a client navigate the process of providing the correct access.
Upselling & Cross-Selling
A strong Account Manager should be able to recognize when an existing client could benefit from additional marketing support.
You will identify relevant opportunities across:
- SEO
- Google Ads
- Meta Ads
- Websites and landing pages
- Additional locations or service areas
- Conversion improvements
- Other relevant marketing services
Our approach is consultative.
The goal is not to sell every service to every client. It is to understand the client's goals, identify genuine gaps or opportunities, and recommend services that make sense for their business.
Communication & Customer Service
This is a client-facing position, so excellent communication skills are essential.
You must be comfortable:
- Speaking with clients regularly by phone
- Leading video meetings
- Writing professional emails
- Explaining marketing concepts in simple language
- Managing expectations
- Handling complaints or concerns
- De-escalating difficult conversations
- Presenting performance results
- Providing solutions rather than becoming defensive
- Following up consistently
- Communicating with business owners and decision-makers
Strong professional spoken and written English is required.
Who We're Looking For
Our ideal candidate has previous digital marketing agency experience, particularly in an Account Manager, Client Success, Marketing Strategist, or similar client-facing position.
However, we recognize that strong candidates may come from different professional backgrounds.
If you have experience in sales, marketing, client success, business development, or account management and have developed a strong understanding of SEO, Google Ads, Meta Ads, websites, and lead generation, we encourage you to apply.
You should be:
- Client-focused and relationship-oriented
- Confident speaking on the phone and leading meetings
- Comfortable discussing marketing strategy
- Commercially minded
- Good at sales without being overly aggressive
- Highly organized
- Proactive with follow-ups
- Comfortable managing multiple client relationships
- Able to understand and interpret marketing data
- Solutions-focused when problems arise
- Comfortable working independently in a remote environment
- Able to collaborate effectively with specialists and management
Location & Working Hours
This is a 100% remote position based in Canada.
Candidates must be located in Canada and available to work:
Monday–Friday8:30 AM–5:30 PM EST
Because this is a client-facing position working with clients and internal teams during North American business hours, consistent availability during these hours is required.
What This Role Is Not
This is not a hands-on Google Ads, Meta Ads, or SEO campaign management position.
Our specialists are responsible for executing and managing campaigns.
Your role is to:
Understand → Review → QA → Communicate → Collect Feedback → Coordinate → Retain → Grow
We don't want an Account Manager who simply forwards messages between clients and specialists.
We want someone who understands the client's business, understands the marketing strategy, knows what is happening within their accounts, and can confidently represent both the client and our team.
What Success Looks Like
A successful Account Manager creates a relationship where the client feels understood, supported, informed, and confident in the direction of their marketing.
You will help connect:
Client Goals → Marketing Strategy → Internal Teams → Performance → Lead Quality → Business Results
Success in this role will ultimately be reflected in client satisfaction, retention, communication quality, account performance oversight, and the ability to grow client relationships over time.
