Full job description

Position Description:

Edelkoort Smethurst Chartered Professional Accountant LLP is a public accounting firm in Burlington serving individuals and companies with a wide array of services. We are a dynamic, technology driven firm seeking a junior staff accountant to join our team and succeed with us. We are looking for someone who is career minded with a desire to learn and grow in the field of public practice.

To be successful in the role, candidates must display a commitment to client service, a high level of personal ethics and a strong desire to learn.

The junior staff accountant will mainly be responsible completion of working paper files (audit, review and compilations). They will also be given responsibilities involving bookkeeping, tax planning, and tax compliance for individuals, trusts and corporations. The position is designed for new graduates therefore the emphasis will be on learning and responsibilities will increase in complexity throughout employment.

About the role:

- Full-time

- Based in Burlington, occasional travel may be required

- Hourly rate $22-$25 per hour

- Health benefits

- Work from home hybrid role is available

- 4 day work week (May – December)

About you:

- Graduate of a post-secondary accounting or business program

- Pursuing or interested in pursuing Canadian CPA designation

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Strong proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel)

- Working knowledge of CaseWare and Profile. Familiarity with QuickBooks, Xero, Jazzit considered an asset

- Personally accountable and results driven

- Ability to manage client deliverables, and prioritize tasks with competing deadlines

- Willing to work overtime when necessary

Sample Duties:

- Prepare client bookkeeping records, reconcile bank and credit card accounts and prepare regular sales tax filings

- Prepare working paper files using caseware for financial statement engagements (assurance and compilation)

- Prepare personal and corporate income tax filings using Profile and CCH Access

- Correspond with clients regarding ongoing files

- Correspond with the Canada Revenue Agency with regards to clients’ tax obligations
