Overview

We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Senior Financial Analyst who will be responsible for supporting financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, month-end and year-end close activities, and providing financial analysis to support management decision-making. The position performs complex financial analysis, reviews key account reconciliations and accounting activities, identifies financial trends and variances, and supports the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. The Senior Financial Analyst also supports regulatory reporting, audits, internal controls, and continuous improvement initiatives across the Finance function.

Core Duties & Responsibilities:

Lead and support assigned month-end and year-end close activities, including preparation and review of journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, financial schedules, and supporting documentation.
Prepare and review monthly financial statements and supporting schedules to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established accounting policies.
Analyze financial results, including budget-to-actual, forecast, cost, margin, and other financial variances; identify significant trends and provide meaningful commentary and recommendations to management.
Prepare financial models, budgets, forecasts, cash flow analyses, and other financial analyses to support operational and strategic decision-making.
Review key balance sheet reconciliations and investigate and resolve significant discrepancies, unusual transactions, and outstanding items.
Prepare and maintain management reports, dashboards, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to support performance monitoring and decision-making.
Support HST filings, WSIB remittance calculations, and other assigned regulatory reporting.
Review designated billing, payroll, and other financial processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, appropriate documentation, and compliance with established internal controls.
Maintain and review fixed asset schedules, including acquisitions, disposals, depreciation, and related reconciliations.
Support annual audits and year-end activities by preparing schedules, reconciliations, analysis, supporting documentation, and responses to audit requests.
Monitor financial and accounting activities for discrepancies, control concerns, and areas of financial or operational risk and escalate significant matters to the Finance Manager.
Identify and recommend opportunities to improve financial reporting, accounting processes, internal controls, automation, and operational efficiency.
Collaborate with Finance, Operations, Sales, and other departments to obtain accurate financial information, investigate financial matters, and provide analytical support.
Provide guidance and financial support to other Finance team members as required and assist in developing consistent accounting and reporting practices.
Perform other financial analysis and accounting responsibilities consistent with the scope and seniority of the position, as required.

Skill Factors

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting or financial analysis experience, including experience with month-end close, financial reporting, and financial analysis.
CPA/CFA designation or progress toward a designation is preferred.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and month-end/year-end close processes.
Experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, financial modeling, and management reporting.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting or ERP systems.
Experience with Power BI or similar business intelligence tools is considered an asset.
Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends, investigate discrepancies, and develop meaningful financial insights.
Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet financial reporting deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate financial information clearly to Finance, Operations, and management.
Ability to work independently, take ownership of assigned financial activities, and appropriately escalate significant financial or accounting matters.
Transportation or logistics industry experience is an asset.

Effort Factor

Requires sustained concentration, analytical thinking, sound judgment, and attention to detail when reviewing and analyzing financial information.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, complex financial information, and recurring deadlines, particularly during month-end, year-end, budgeting, and forecasting periods.
Regular computer use, including extended periods of sitting and screen time.

A. Working Conditions

Standard workweek is 40 hours; additional hours may be required based on business needs, particularly during month-end, year-end, budgeting, forecasting, and audit periods.
Work is primarily performed in a temperature-controlled office environment using standard office, accounting, and computer systems.
