Position Overview
Madsen Controls & Engineering is seeking a bilingual Technical Outside Sales Representative to develop and manage sales opportunities across Quebec and Eastern Ontario. This field-based role is responsible for growing revenue within the territory by identifying new business opportunities, supporting existing industrial customers, and providing technical sales guidance for controls, components, and support solutions used in industrial prime mover, power management, engine, turbine, and related applications.
The successful candidate will combine a strong technical foundation with proven outside sales experience and the ability to build trusted relationships with customers in industrial markets such as power generation, oil and gas, and manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
· Develop, manage, and grow sales within the assigned Quebec and Eastern Ontario territory.
· Identify and pursue new business opportunities with industrial customers, including power plants, oil and gas facilities, manufacturing plants, and related industrial operations.
· Maintain and expand relationships with existing customers through regular field visits, technical discussions, and responsive follow-up.
· Assess customer requirements and recommend appropriate technical solutions, products, services, and support offerings.
· Prepare and deliver technical presentations, proposals, quotations, and territory sales plans.
· Work independently but also able to coordinate closely with internal engineering, service, and operations teams to ensure customer needs are clearly understood and effectively supported.
· Track opportunities, customer activity, and sales pipeline information using company systems and reporting tools.
· Represent Madsen Controls & Engineering professionally at customer sites, industry events, and supplier or partner meetings.
· Meet or exceed agreed sales targets for the territory, including revenue, margin, and business development objectives.
Required Qualifications
· Technical diploma in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, instrumentation, controls, or a closely related technical discipline.
· Minimum of five years of previous outside sales experience selling technical products, services, or engineered solutions to industrial customers.
· Demonstrated experience working with customers in power generation, oil and gas, manufacturing, or similar industrial environments.
· Bilingual fluency in French and English, with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, and internal teams in both languages.
· Currently eligible to work in Canada.
· Strong technical aptitude and ability to understand industrial equipment, controls, power management systems, rotating equipment, and related applications.
· Proven ability to prospect, develop accounts, manage a territory, and close sales opportunities.
· Excellent interpersonal, presentation, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
· Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel regularly throughout Quebec and Eastern Ontario, including occasional overnight travel as required.
Preferred Attributes
· Experience selling controls, components, service solutions, or engineered systems for engines, turbines, generators, power management, or industrial automation applications.
· Familiarity with consultative or solution-based selling in complex industrial environments.
· Comfort working independently in a field sales role while coordinating closely with technical and operational teams.
· Customer-focused approach with strong organizational skills and the discipline to manage multiple opportunities across a large territory.
Compensation
Compensation will include a competitive base salary plus commission tied to sales performance within the assigned territory. Additional details regarding benefits, expenses, vehicle allowance or mileage reimbursement, and other employment terms will be discussed during the recruitment process.
Work Environment and Travel
This is an outside sales position requiring regular travel to customer sites throughout Quebec and Eastern Ontario. The candidate should live within the assigned territory. The role will involve a mix of customer visits, technical meetings, proposal development, supplier coordination, and internal collaboration with the Madsen Controls & Engineering team. Significant travel is required within the territory.
