WHITECAP DAKOTA NATION

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this position will be responsible for WDN’s Child and Family Services Prevention Program through policy, consultation, practice, and review to ensure that operational service delivery meets Whitecap Dakota Nation’s (WDN) strategic objectives for CFS Jurisdiction, Family and Prevention services. The position will consult with WDN Elders, community leaders and members regarding community values and customs to ensure integration in planning and development processes in relation to new and existing prevention initiatives. The position will advocate for community needs and ensure effective partnerships with business partners and other external agencies. This position will be accountable for the overall financial due diligence, reporting and program planning for the day-to-day service operations. The position will ensure adherence to policies, standards, directives, and guidelines as required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following is NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list but only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities.

Identify emerging trends and needs affecting WDN children and families.
Plan prevention programs with reporting, measurables, and budgets.
Provide input on program policies to meet legislative, strategic, and community requirements.
Promoting family and spiritual harmony.
Build and sustain an effective CFS Prevention team according to the prevention plan.
Ensure that program service delivery meets standards, quality, safety, and budget.
Oversee the development and communication of effective training for the CFS team.
Collaborate with stakeholders, including the Chief and Council, Chief Executive Officer, and Director of Health, to leverage capacity for WDN CFS programs.
Provide leadership and set objectives for team members.
Develop a strong CFS team by recruiting, training, and mentoring new and existing members.
Communicate performance expectations to team members and provide feedback and discipline as required.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A Master of Social Work or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in child protection and prevention in a senior supervisory/management capacity within First Nation communities.
Experience with culturally appropriate service models for First Nations people.
Demonstrated experience managing staff, providing mentorship, coaching, and performance feedback.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, with experience in report writing.
Experience working within a governance structure in a community development capacity with First Nations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of Bill C-92, child welfare case management, and the Child and Family Services Act.
Sensitivity to the experiences of First Nations and Indigenous peoples in Canada.
Understanding of Indigenous culture and values, including awareness of the communities served.
Strong analytical skills to evaluate program needs and results.
Ability to organize and prioritize competing demands.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage and lead staff to achieve goals and priorities.
Dependability and ability to work independently.
Receptive to feedback and take ownership of responsibilities.
Strong interpersonal skills and integrity.
Initiative in seeking opportunities for further development.
Willingness to travel, work flexible hours, and provide on-call services when required.
