Full job description

Our client, a high-volume, North American automotive design/manufacturer with a legacy of resilience & innovation, is seeking a Payroll Analyst for its North York, ON Corporate office. This is a hybrid role with 3 days in-office & 2 days, work from home.

The Job:

The Payroll Analyst is responsible for payroll processing, reporting, analysis, business controls/audit, accounting and process simplification. This individual partners with the other Payroll team members, HR and Corporate Accounting to ensure effective and efficient payroll related processes.

Payroll and Other Related Processes

Responsible for processing payroll for hourly and salary employees in Canada and the US in a timely and accurate manner.
Support for hourly time keeping system
Develop, recommend and implement policies and procedures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of payroll and related processes, including the deployment of desk procedures and manuals.
Process owner and administration of cross-border employee travel and work activities
Provide support on Canada and US WSIB including reconciliation of WSIB payments and adjustments, and US WSIB annual renewal process.
Input to Corporate and Plant HR teams on CBA negotiations as required
Ensure appropriate implementation and administration of changes to the collective agreements
Support HR on Pay Equity and other process as required

Accounting and Reporting

Support and help with reconciling plant payroll accounts, including the payroll GL interface to QAD, and processing month-end payroll accruals.
Monthly analysis on payroll and other labour costs
Track and account for Severance payments, including interfacing with the Ministry of Labour
Publish labour report reporting as required (e.g. monthly headcount, overtime trends, etc.)
Lead with bank and external accounting auditors on payroll related processes
Provide Payroll information to support external funding and other government programs

Business Controls, Audit & Regulatory Requirements

Responsible for Payroll business controls
Perform periodic self-assessments to ensure appropriate controls for payroll and related processes
Monitor, evaluate and implement applicable government requirements for Canada and the US payroll, including submitting appropriate regulatory reporting
Support on external payroll related audits (e.g. EHT, WSIB, etc)

Other Projects

Support HR on projects, including the management of the Dayforce system
Assist in the preparation of yearly budgets, supplying required information to the plant finance team

Requirements:

Minimum 5 years of Payroll experience; Experience in a lead role is an asset.
Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation required.
Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) an asset.
Experience with legislation and regulations in both Canada and USA.
College Diploma or Certificate in business accounting, an asset.
Experience with a unionized payroll, an asset.
Experience with Dayforce System, an asset
Strong attention to detail and excellent organization skills.
Excellent communication skills to effectively interface with various stakeholders both within the organization and external.
Strong interpersonal skills, coupled with judgment, maturity and ability to lead project teams
Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
