General Summary
The ReStore Assistant Manager is responsible for supporting the ReStore Manager in all aspects of managing the daily profitability of ReStore operations utilizing volunteers and staff. This position is also a strong advocate for the Habitat for Humanity brand and is responsible to support and promote the mission in day-to-day activities. The ReStore Assistant Manager is a leadership role, and as such, you should be prepared to manage daily operations, troubleshoot problems in the workplace, ensure a positive customer and donor experience and lead a team by performance example. The ReStore Assistant Manager is in good physical condition with strong interpersonal skills and is adaptable to a changing environment on a daily basis.
Your contribution to the customer experience begins with the scheduling or pick ups and deliveries, receipt of donations, and continues through coordinating your team through testing, processing, and pricing of goods, and taking the lead in merchandising and sales. Your day will be a continuous bustle of physical activity, marked by frequent interruptions and shifting priorities, all aimed at appreciating our donors, satisfying our customers, and allowing the ReStore to be a major contributor to Habitat for Humanity’s mission to provide affordable housing for hard-working families.
The ReStore Assistant Manager will strive to meet the operational objectives of the 2026-2029 Strategic Plan as part of the management team. They will manage direct reporting staff and volunteers within the ReStore adhering to HFHSC Human Resources Policy and the Donor Relations Policy. Be responsible for safety, security and fire protection within the building and vehicles. Manage and update Business Unit Recovery Plans ensuring that all personnel are aware of their role in the event of fire, flood, power outage, internet down time. Responsible for the physical layout and the inventories in the ReStore including safe storage of all hardware, electrical, plumbing, appliances, furniture, lighting, doors, windows, and wall hangings to facilitate easy, functional, and pleasant access for donors, staff, and volunteers.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties
The ReStore Assistant Manager reports to the ReStore Manager. The incumbent is responsible for supporting the ReStore Manager in day-to-day operations of the ReStore in accordance with established policies, procedures, and practices and fill the ReStore Managers role when they are absent. The Restore Assistant Manager leads the ReStore team of staff and volunteers by example and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Essential Functions
· Receive delivery of goods from individual and retail donors. Ensure the appropriate staff and volunteers are available to offload, record and price new inventory. Adjust current product on the floor to make room for new inventory by selling, moving, discarding, or donating.
· Manage relationships with local and off coast retail donors by travelling to their location to pick up donated new products, offloading, pricing, and placing them into inventory.
· Liaison with the ReStore Manager to identify timing for sales and special events to reduce physical inventory holdings to create space for new donations.
· Keep record of all donations dropped off at the ReStore, inspect, price, and add to inventory.
· Plan the logistics with drivers of all deliveries, pick-ups, dump runs, metal recycling to maximize route timing and safety.
· Be available to assist or stand in for the ReStore Manager in the event of illness, vacation, or business conflict
· Complete testing and repairs on appliances, tools, plumbing supplies, as necessary.
Customer Experience
· Provide positive, professional interactions with customers – in person and on the phone – at all times
· Maintain a high standard for cleanliness, neatness, functionality, and overall presentation of the facility
· Ensure products are displayed and merchandised for optimum exposure and salability
· Ensure displays are updated regularly and kept current
· Generate sales and identify and capitalize on upselling opportunities
· Implement policies and procedures as specified by the ReStore Manager and Executive Director
· Undertake other related duties as identified by the ReStore Manager and Executive Director
Donor Experience
· Adhere to established Donor Experience and Donation guidelines and processes
· Provide positive, professional interactions with donors at all times
· Oversee the staff or volunteers in screening donated goods for suitability
· Coordinate Drivers/Swampers in the pickup and/or delivery of donations and purchased items, and occasional support for the Recycling program.
· Decline unsuitable donated goods tactfully, while preserving the goodwill of the donor
· Ensure that donations are processed, tested, and priced for movement to the sales floor
· Operate warehouse equipment as required
· Assist in taking calls regarding donations in accordance with Donor Experience process
· Interface with other Habitat for Humanity operations for procurement of goods
Retail Activities
· Create and manage in-store sales and promotions
· Liaise with other staff for social media posts and marketing activities
· Maintain store standards for product merchandising including repricing and culling of inventory
· Implement product pricing guidelines
Staff and Volunteer Management
· Following the HFHSC Human Resources Policy be responsible for training, safety, performance, motivation, talent development, scheduling, and conflict resolution for three directly reporting positions. Swamper, Driver/Swamper, and Donor Relations.
· Ensure that all direct reports have signed job descriptions and annual performance reviews based on those jobs.
· Create a team environment to facilitate the setting of goals, daily routines, meetings, hear suggestions, comments, and concerns, monitor progress and praise success
· Work with and direct volunteers of varying abilities and backgrounds for various activities including deliveries and inventory rearrangement.
· Assist in identification, recruitment, training, and mentoring of staff and volunteers
· Ensure attendance and timesheet reporting for staff and volunteers
· Ensure that all staff are comfortable verbalizing HFHSC’s Mission, Vision and Values and have Donor Relations training
· Ensure all direct reports understand, respect, and know how to communicate with Donors
· Report on staff and volunteer performance to ReStore Manager
· Ensure staff and volunteer orientation and training programs, including safety procedures, are implemented in accordance with budgets and requirements established and approved by the Executive Director
· Escalate to the ReStore Manager issues with health, conflict resolution and communication/harassment issues and outstanding performance as soon as possible
· Read and understand all safety and operational manuals pertinent to store operations
Financial Management in Concert with the ReStore Manager
· Ensure processing of daily point-of-sale (cash register or POS) transactions, including cash and credit card transactions
· Oversee reconciling of daily sales against register receipts
· Cash out and deposit responsibilities
· Maintain daily, monthly, and quarterly sales and store credit logs
· Manage petty cash
· Authorize in-store refunds, discount programs, and/or credits
· Complete accurate recording of donor information for tax receipting
· Follow budget guidelines on ReStore operational expenses
· Support ReStore Manager in developing annual budget
Loss Prevention & Risk Management
· Report suspicious activity to appropriate authorities or ReStore Manager
· Work in accordance with safety policies and procedures
General Administration
· Ensure adherence to ReStore policies, procedures, and practices
· Address and document all customer, donor, and volunteer complaints
· Ensure occupational health and safety guidelines are always followed including reporting all incidents and hazards to the ReStore Manager
Qualifications
· Post secondary education or other training and education in Business Administration, Logistics, Retail Operations, Moving Operations, Warehouse/Distribution
· 3 Years experience in Front Line management in related industry at various levels
· Willingness to participate in Nonprofit Management training
· Criminal Record Check
· Knowledge of the structure, purpose, and the operation of a nonprofit organizations an asset.

· Valid Drivers Licence
· Ability to work Saturdays as scheduled.

Work Conditions
Work is primarily performed in a resale environment and will also include work in office and production environments. The work environment is fast paced with frequent short-term deadlines. Critical or unusual situations occur regularly. A high level of adaptability is required.
Operation of delivery truck for picking up or delivery of goods donated to or purchased from the ReStore.

ReStore offers a competitive salary and benefits plan. Salary is negotiable based on qualifications and experience.
